D Tom Willander - Boston University, NCAA (2023, 11th, VAN)

Excited to see this guy play pro, high IQ guys with mobility this good usually adapt fairly quickly.

Playing PP1, logging heavy PK minutes, not much more you can ask of him this tourney.

Very Very Good tournament for Willander. Smooth, Strong and Smart.

All situations defender for Team Sweden and being tasked to shutdown the other teams top forward.

He is ready to turn pro this spring in my opinion. Might be the prospect that is best set up to succeed as there is a chance he gets paired with Quinn Hughes for the next decade.

He wás never going to win Dman of the tournament without the fláshy stats, but I believe he was the steadiest, game controlling defensemen in these games. I believe the coach thinks so too looking at his deployment. One of the best defensive prospects out there ready to step in right now, top 4 next year.

True. We already have one of the top two best flashy stats guys in the league. A steady big minute guy is exactly what Vancouver needs.

I Like what I see. I would have like to see him more physical and implicated at some point but it was a good tournament for him.

He reminded me a little bit Cam York

Without any hyperbole I can say he's already a big upgrade on Vinny and Noah and quite frankly with how God awful Soucy has been and without any other moves, Willander would be ahead of him in short order.

Watching this team blow lead after lead because Soucy, Noah and Vinny can't clear the puck or make a five foot pass under minimal pressure is slowly crushing my soul.

Pretty easy
$850k schedule A’s
He’s not the type to win a Calder on schedule B

Seems like a lot of posturing for nothing
I mean he still has to earn them
That’s what I am saying though… his camp is saying contract issues. I assume Vancouver is offering ELC with Max Bonuses. Seems they just don’t want Vancouver. Although I’m speculating.

Apparently it is hovering below max schedule A’s

Buium got max on year 2 & 3
(Obviously can’t in year 1)
But he’s an easily better prospect

Vancouver is navigating the rotting the corpse of OEL’s buyout of $4.8 million the next couple of years

I’d just give him max in year 2 and 3 and like $650 in year 1.

Vancouver is still calling his bluff as he gets $270k ($90k x3) in bonuses before another team can even offer him a contract

He is on Team Sweden right now, the mens team. He might play in World Championship which starts in May.
I do rather he join abbotsford for their playoff run though. build some comraderie with his future teammates.... but judging by their posturing, he is a likely candidate to be dangled for our JTMiller sized hole in 2C.

Is he though?

Help me out, what exactly are the Canucks doing/thinking here?

This kid is going to be a really good nhl d, Vancouver can’t possibly fumble this lol.

And by all accounts he wants to turn pro.

Pretty sure we are going to use him to trade for a center.

We are in perpetual ‘win now’ mode. Defense is a strength and the top 6 is crap.

Knowing that I don’t think management is overly concerned about how negotiations are going.
He’s not going to give up an NHL salary to play another season in College anyways.
