I had no idea how much Allan benefitted from the coaching change. Wow those numbers
I think the numbers have more to do with the change in the system than a huge change in how well he has been playing. I don’t think he was playing nearly as poor as those numbers suggest, it’s just the passive nature of the system. I also think there is a lot to be said for having a consistent d partner in Murphy for the last while.

The coaching change also coincides with a dman partner change. The last 6 games 5x5:

Allan/Murphy
TOI: 75:57
Corsi: 51.13
Fenwick: 50.0
Goals for/against: 5 to 1
High danger for/against: 14 to 15

Korchinski/Brodie
TOI: 72:48
Corsi: 43.38
Fenwick: 38.95
Goals for/against: 3 to 5
High danger for/against: 9 to 16

Jones is back, Kaiser down. I get it. But Brodie should absolutely sit.

If it were me, I'd be curious to see how the D looks if they straight up replaced Brodie with Jones. Keep Vlasic with Crevier, Allan with Murphy, and Korchinski with Jones. 3 lefties, 3 righties, and I'd take the mix of youth and talent over whatever experience Brodie brings.
I’d be down with that.

Both Vlasic and Allan got a lot of crap when they were drafted.. .Rinzel looks like a stud and got crap when drafted as well. Levshunov still learning, but leads the AHL in shots by a defenseman...toss in EDM and like Lewis said in Trading Places...."Looking good, Billy Ray".

Good article. I think I have said it before, but when I watch Allan I see a weird combo of Hjalmasson and Forsling. Obviously, it is unlikely he reaches the heights of either of them, but he has a blend of the two as far as characteristics.
I think Allan's potential as a complete dman could pass both of them in overall value to his team.

He also makes the Seth Jones trade not look so bad. I know it's early but it would be funny if he ends up being a better player than Jiricek who the Jackets took with the pick the Hawks gave them.

Also Dominic James was the 6th rounder throw in they got and he might have a decent career too. So ironically, we might look at the Jones trade as a work of genius from Bowman even though Seth Jones and his contract have been an emblem of failure to end the 'dynasty'.

Right now, I think I'd still take David Jiricek, Cole Sillinger, Aleksi Heimosalmi, and Adam Boqvist over Seth Jones, Nolan Allan, and Dominic James but the gap is getting closer.

That doesn't make the trade less bad, just means the Hawks got lucky

The fact he’s even on a team with minus 20 goal differential is very encouraging

Plus minus is flawed but still insightful within the context of the team and mins played

Good example how we fans have no clue about these prospect. We may have strong ideas and opinions but we don´t know sh*t about them and how they´ll develop.

Hoping Nolan Allan continues his fine rookie season…the Blackhawks have had many Calder Trophy winners and even more All-Rookie Team members over the years…but never an All-Rookie Team defenceman believe it or not? Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook didn’t make an All-Rookie Team…but this season so far Allan and Lane Hutson of Montreal are really the only two who have stood out…

Here’s a list of Blackhawks All-Rookie Team members…which started in 1982-83

1982-83 Steve Larmer, f Calder winner
1987-88 Darren Pang, g
1990-91 Ed Belfour, g Calder winner
1991-92 Dominik Hasek, g
1995-96 Eric Daze, f
2002-03 Tyler Arnason, f
2007-08 Patrick Kane, f Calder winner
Jonathan Toews, f
2008-09 Kris Versteeg, f
2010-11 Corey Crawford, g
2012-13 Brandon Saad, f
2015-16 Artemi Panarin, f Calder winner
2019-20 Dominik Kubalik, f
2023-24 Connor Bedard, f Calder winner
