All of their D prospects after 2011 are still playing junior/NCAA. Mitch Wheaton was developing nicely until his injury. The jury is still out on Mike McKee and James De Haas, however.
Well the best one seemed to be McNulty last year, but I doubt any of them amount to much.
Hicketts scratched for tonight's game, meaning he could be a lock for the team?
Hard to get too excited about a dman of his size. What ever happened to Almquist?

Almquist was short and very slender, light on the puck, and had skating issues, from what I've read Hicketts is quite stocky for his height and skates well. Not really comparable IMO.
Almquist couldn't gain weight. Detroit wanted him to get heavier for years but he was still a twig.
That's not a problem for Hicketts, who played at a very heavy weight last season I believe.
So a shorter version of Derek Meech?
Meech never had a season as good as Hicketts rookie season, let alone close to the one he is currently having this year. Meech got by being a cheap #6/7 dman in his prime and once he got paid to be a 4/5 guy he became essential worthless. Besides that Hicketts and Meech are completely different types of defenceman.
Size puts you at a disadvantage but that doesn't mean the player is written off. Hickets is short but he has the body type where he wil be able to play at 185-190 pounds and still be effective. Add to it he is a good skater and isn't shying away from contact and you have a player who shouldn't be hindered too much from his size.
If Hicketts was 6'1 or even 6'0 he'd likely have been a top 30 or a top 60 pick in last years draft.
Thanks for posting that. Boy is he tiny. I really can't see him carving out an NHL career.

Would have been top 10 EASILY
