Hes having quite the season, I cant believe he was undrafted. I think I read that Pronman had him ranked in the top 40 of his draft actually.
I wonder if he has a shot at team Canada actually
how many 5"8< tall defenseman are in the NHL in the last 5 years? didn't help he missed half the games last year due to injury.
Tiny stalwart plays like he has 6 more inches on him than he really does. Lost a good part of the season due to shoulder injury. True heart and soul, very high IQ stabilizing force. Possesses good overall skating that is a bit awkward with a goofy upwards leg drive when accelerating. Great puck mover. Reportedly a hefty 180-190 so could get even better when he conditions that extra weight.
^^ Given his build and the fact that the beard's coming in i highly doubt he tops 5'9-5'10 absolute maximum
I highly doubt he tops 5'8". This kids dad is apparently 5'7" too.
Joe is very unlikely to grow any further, but I'm sure happy he got signed and is getting all the recognition he rightfully deserves.
Apparently what sealed the deal for the Wings was his play in regular camp. He looked great even against pros.He handled himself well against bigger, older NHL prospects, well enough to earn a contract anyway. Small, puck-moving defensemen can get by in today's NHL. Very curious to follow his development over the coming years.

30 teams "whiffed" on Hicketts at the 2014 NHL Draft.
My feature on Joe and the past 12 months of his hockey career is coming up at HF this week.
It's been a crazy hockey road map for a heckuva a good kid!
If he keeps up his current pace does anyone think he has a shot at CHL d-man of the year? I know its early but he's scoring at about Sprouls rate during his final year in the OHL.
He probably has a shot. I mean, if he keeps it up he's probably getting 80 points.
