TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT

:canes

Ladislav Smid (50% retained)
Mikael Backlund (50% retained)
Matt Stajan (50% retained)
Lee Stempniak (50% retained)

:flames

Ryan Murphy
Trevor Carrick
Riley Nash

We are very high on Murphy. Will be a big building block for our defense, so much potential. Has awesome abilities, amazing skater, booming shot, very good hands, good vision and hockey IQ. Needs to improve defensively, but with his abilities we'll work a lot with him and we believe he'll be very good defensively along with his great offensive game.

Brother to our newly acquired Sam Carrick, Trevor Carrick is another defenseman with a lot of potential. Has size, play physical, very good offensive game with a great shot from the point, also sound defensively. Very good potential.

Nash is a good young role player. Has decent size, good along the boards and on the cycle, very good defensively, can play on the PK and can chip in offensively as well. Good role player that is versatile through a lineup.

Note: all players I get are 50% retained.

Sucks to lose Murphy, but I get an entire 3rd line and a steady 2nd pairing D. I literally have never heard of Carrick, so there's that.

Thanks to QMJHLF for the smooth negotiations.

I'm sure there's teams that would pay out the rear end for guys like Duchene, Carlson and even Landeskog. With some of those guys you're sure to win some games which you probably don't want.

I gutted my team for those 3 players, will not entertain any offer for them. The point of rebuilding is to have the best team in the future, these 3 players give me the best chance of that. Unless you want to give me Hall ;)

A lot can change in 3 years. Players rise and players fall. I guess I'm just in the mindset of: if I can get several blue chip pieces with high end talent and potential rather then keeping 1 current young star I'd do it. I mean, it's not like those guys are middle aged or declining, you would be able to justify asking a premium price. And potentially strengthen other areas of your franchise like your goaltending and defense that aren't nearly as good as your offense. Just my opinion.

Still a lot of players available to move before the trade freeze.

Jiri Hudler, Dennis Wideman, Kris Russel, David Jones, Shane O'Brien, Chris Butler. Can move Bryan Bickell as well.

Can retain salary for all of them.

Can move one or two young centers for another young player: Max Reinhart, Markus Granlund, Corban Knight, Bill Arnold.

Can also swap Johnny Gaudreau for another young player.

PM me guys, want to nego and to make trades before the trade freeze.

Exactly players rise and fall, I'd much rather have a proven comodity like Duchene opposed to 3 propects who may, or may not make an impact in the league. Also, I have a lot of faith in Lack, so not looking for an upgrade there.
