I'd say he's about 5'9.

He's listed as 5'10 on every site I've seen. Given he's one of the youngest in this class, it wouldn't be a shock if he ended up closer to 6 foot. I don't think size is going to hold him back. There's enough dmen around that size to show that.

what are you comparing him too? no one can judge height by eye test unless you have seen him standing in front of a chart with heights on it you are guessing. Numerous places list him as 5'10". I guess we have to wait until the draft combine to find out legit what he is.

Size is a problem for a player like Brännström. He doesn't have that elite quickness in his first steps that helps a lot of smaller players, he is also not a super skilled player with the puck. I see a lot of people here think he'll be a first rounder, I would not be surprised if he goes after the 2nd round.

Seen him play so many times. His teammate in HV71, Lias Andersson is listed as 5'11, Brännström is definitely a couple of inches shorter than him. He is also noticeably shorter than players like Kalle Miketinac and Rickard Hugg on the national team who are also listed as 5'10-11. The combine heights are the only ones I really trust.

this is most important fro me too.

Not saying you are wrong or right, just every resource on the internet has him 5'10"

He's not quick? Are we watching different players?

He reminds me of Nylander on defense. Holds onto that puck for days. We must have him.

Kid oozes with confidence, love seeing that in a prospect.

His wrister is crazy good, reminds me of Karlsson's shot. Deadly accurate, he always finds a lane and gets the puck on net (noticeable from his shot generation as well).

Some people on the Leafs forum prefer Foote and Hague over Brannstrom.

I don't get it.

Brannstrom looks to be far and away more talented than either of them. He's also quite a bit younger.

I don't see this at all. He seems to be really, really skilled. He's really quick, too...

He's been fine defending men in the SHL at his size, i think he's OK...

On big ice... in a league that is 100x more finesse than the AHL and NHL...

The love-fest is a little overboard in this thread, IMO. I'd be surprised if he went as high as folks are suggesting on HF. There's risk with players like this, even when the highlight reels are impressive.

I remember people saying Girard might sneak into the 1st... he went #47. I remember a bunch of folks thinking Dineen was going to go in the 20-30 range... he went #68. We're often willing to take risks on here that NHL teams are not. Hell, myself included for certain guys.

Maybe he does what some of you are suggesting - Ellis went #11 at around 5'10", Honka went #14 at 5'10"... it's not impossible. But I think teams are going to bake more risk into it than just watching his highlights and saying "damn".

There are still big players in the SHL and even if it's on a bigger ice surface we do have board battles in the SHL, FYI. Also, it's not like he's just good in the highlight reels, he was a dominant player both at the five nations in February and at the U18 WJC, that's over 10 games of being one of the best players on the ice.

I don't think Brännström is going in the top 10, i do however rank him in MY top 10 (top 5 to be accurate). I do think teams are dumb if he isn't gone in the top 20.

Very true. I was pretty shocked when Viktor Arvidsson (in his 1st overage season) and Sebastian Aho (Swedish) were passed over completely in their drafts. Brännström will obviously get drafted but teams tend to have other priorities in the higher rounds, doesn't mean he's not going to have an NHL career but I could easily see him go way, way lower on draft day than most think.

That's fair. He has a lot of potential, understand why you might be a big fan of his. I just think NHL teams hedge their bets more than we do, but then again, this is a weaker draft so you might see a team more willing to think outside the box and take a risk.

Brannstrom kind of reminds me of Kronwall, fwiw. Could see him becoming a similar player.

Although his brother is 5'9 and dad 5'10 i hope he can add another inch to his height. I very much doubt it, but then again. He's 13 days of being a 2018 eligble defenseman. Think it would help his career a ton, i agree with a lot of Swedes. I very much doubt Brännström is even 5'10.

Not super skilled... are we watching the same player?

I dunno watching that U18 highlight video.. he's not gonna get away with a lot of that in NA.. that one play where he's below the offensive red line with 3 guys just standing right next to him watching him pass it out to a forward :help:

but i guess thats what we think about a lot of these european players, all about if they can make the adjustments or not

Smaller players like Erik Karlsson, Mitch Marner, Gaudreau (etc.) manage to get away with it.

If they can skater and have top skills, they can be relatively impactful in NA.

This isn't the 80's or 90's.

What the...

Probably has the smoothest hands in the draft, smoothest not best. His skating is also really impressive all around: agility, speed, acceleration. Probably in the top 10 of this draft for skating. His size is the only thing that could be a concern. If he could gain more muscle in his wrists and legs he could be a real solid player in the nhl. Id say hes a late round first.

The only thing that could happen to him is that he gets bigger
