Brannstrom looked pretty damn good tonight.....
He definitely made some mistakes, but that was expected. Also made some nice plays, including that beauty stretch pass to Veronneau in the 2nd. It's going to be so nice for Ottawa to have multiple young puck movers like Chabot, Brannstrom and Wolanin.

The thing that surprised me the most about Brannstrom was his defensive game. I was expecting a hot mess, but he always seemed to be in the right position and he had a very active stick. Something I wasn't expecting. Again, still plenty of work ahead, but he did not look out of place at all in the NHL.

Him having a bad defensive game is something that has really just been born out of the fact that he excels at his offensive game. While playing at World Juniors(both this and last year) he was the main PKer.

When coming over to NA ice, Wolves' coach said he had to fix certain things, and that he did so in a matter of some week.

Oh trust me, I'm all too used to that misjudgement with Karlsson. Heard other fans chirp his defensive game for years all because he was so good offensively. Super impressive for a 19 year old dman to come to North America and have immediate success like that. He'll be playing his last game as a Belleville Senator this spring. Up full time next year.

That was expected, though since Belleville are playing Laval tonight and only have a small cushion on the last playoff spot.

I thought he settled into the game well. Similar to his AHL debut when Mann thought he was nervous at the start and grew into. Thought his poise and calmness on the puck was really noticeable. Excited to see how next year unfolds for him.

Looks to be staying up for now. Chlapik and Abramov both went back to Belleville without him. Thought he had some nice breakouts against Calgary

If Chabot is cleared for tomorrow which it looks like he will be, he will be returned to Belleville. Only up on emergency basis at the moment with Chabot and Ceci out. I think if Belleville is sitting comfortable after Wednesday he will be called up and play out the rest of the season in Ottawa. Ottawa only has two call ups remaining. Assuming they will use them on Brannstrom and Batherson.

I expect a good rookie season from Brannstrom next year with Ottawa that will see him alternating in-between the second and third pairings while posting 20-30 points as a defenseman. The year after that and for quite a while, I expect him to play like a first or a good second-pairing defenseman.

The guy is an absolute blue chip prospect and I'm jealous you Ottawa fans get to see him and Chabot (and Wolanin too to a lesser extent, he's looked pretty good this year and should be a good offensive D for you guys) on your left-side d-pairings for the foreseeable future. Batherson, Tkachuk, Brown and White are also no slouches as far as prospects go, so even though you have the worst owner by a country mile, you should be right back in the thick of it in a couple years with more deft drafting and development.

All the best to you guys,
Signed : a Montreal Canadiens fan that will get right back to hating your guts instead of cheering for you when you get good again, kind of the same as with Toronto I guess.

Any updates on him? How has he looked?
He looked like one of the better players at the rookie tournament. He's played 1 exhibition game vs the leafs and was good , but nothing wow or great. I think he needs more AHL time and will likely get it but he is being given the opportunity being paired with Hainsey. His main competition to stick is Lajoie who has more NHL experience and deserves a good look. Lajoie is paired with Demelo, who looks like he has been pushed down the lineup on RD with Smith's boys Zaitsev and Hainsey ahead of him. With Wolanin getting injured on the eve of camp, either Brannstrom or Lajoie both have a better chance to get 1 spot. Wolanin with a halfway decent camp would have pushed them both to Belleville.

He can still work on his game in Belleville.

He's gonna be a good one.

Well, Lajoie was cut today so I guess Brannstrom is in front of him now!

I think this kid is a stud in the NHL one day, potential #1 pairing D man. Skill and composure. If you are going to get a player for Stone, this is not a bad player to get.

Yup .. we shall see who else gets cut I suppose. I predict Brannstrom will go back to Belleville , after an extended look. Lajoie was up against the guy they got for Mark Stone after which Dorion said it was his proudest day as GM of the Senators . I am not saying I think Lajoie is a better prospect long term.
