D Erik Brannstrom (2017, 15th, VGK - Traded to OTT)

Erik Brännström is a two-way d-man.

By calling him an offensive-defenseman, I'm not suggesting he can't play defense. I'd also call Carlson, Karlsson, Burns, Klingberg, Subban, and many others "offensive-defensemen" but they can also play defense.

I was making this comparison before he was drafted and I'm going to say it here. Erik Karlsson.
Swedish born defenceman with excellent skating abilitys that rocketed up draft boards near the end of their draft seasons. Both on the small side, both named Erik and both were drafted 15th overall. Karlsson played 12 games in the AHL scoring 11 points before being called up as a 19 year old. Brannstrom is now at 10 points in 10 games, as a 19 year old defenceman in the AHL.

Yeah.

I can see why the comparison is made, but I don't think Brannström will ever swirl on the blueline the way Ghost does. At the same time I think EB will become the better player because I think he will be fairly decent defensively.

Erik Brännström does swirl on the blueline and does the spinorama stuff in the OZone, but that's kinda where the comparison to Ghost ends imo, Brännström is more in the Brian Campbell mold imo.

I hope you are right, but I would be very surprised if Brannström becomes as good/effective as Ghost at that specific skill.

Have not seen him play this year ... but 18 points in 21 games would indicate he is adapting well to the North American game (?). Is he on the radar to get called up? Anyone know how he has been playing - points aside?

On the radar by the fans and media? Yes. On the radar for McPhee? Not really, he likes to overcook his prospects. Jesse Granger wrote an article about him some days ago here: Erik Brannstrom's talent is evident, but it won't be what... where the Wolves' coach Rocky Thompson said he was a liability in one aspect of the game, but that has disappeared with his time in the AHL. He's the Wolves' starting D on the ice alongside either Jake Bischoff or Griffin Reinhart(Isles legend).

Gallant did say when he got sent down that the only reason he's down in the A is due to playing time. I think with a great world juniors he could possibly break into the Vegas D(shouldn't be that hard, but McPhee is McPhee).

What Brannstrom is doing as a 19 year old defencemen in the AHL is unprecedented. He doesn't even turn 20 till next season.

Goal already for Sweden. He’s so elusive on the blue line it is mesmerizing. Very good at getting shots through to the net as well.

People who are saying Hughes will be the best defenceman in this tournament forgot that he was vastly outplayed by Brannstrom last tournament, and they're the same age. He's my frontrunner for best defenceman in the tournament.

Think he will end up with an assist on that. Shot from the blue with what looked like a slight redirection from Hugg

He's amazing btw
Looks like there was no redirection.

Something that should be brought up more though is his fantastic defensive game.
