D Erik Brannstrom (2017, 15th, VGK - Traded to OTT)

Early early days. Hanifin was scoring points at a decent rate in the NHL long before Werenski, Provorov and Chabot. Obviously for different reasons, but I think Brannstrom is doing sensationally well considering the type of player he is. He certainly has a shot at becoming the best D from that class.

I still like Heiskanen and Makar more, Brannstrom is certainly looking great though.

Not bad for a "weak" draft class

PPGström keeps chugging along with an assist on the PP, still one period to go.

Can't wait until he QBs Vegas' PP.

They said his defence was the problem.

I say their defence is the problem, they can’t move the puck.

A little time in the AHL is not a bad thing. He will make it up this season and will make it so he isn't sent down.

He's Erik Brannstrom, the one and only none of this Gostisbehere stuff.

There's nothing wrong with comparing him to Gostisbehere. They are both undersized, left shooting, offensive-defenseman who started their careers in the AHL. Like Gostisbehere, I think Brannstrom will be recalled partway through the season and have a similar impact at the NHL level to what Gostisbehere did in his first season (46 points in 64 games). Both players are perfectly suited for the way the NHL is played today. They are both smooth-skating dmen who can transition the puck up the ice either by skating it through the neutral zone or making a tape-to-tape pass to a forward on the rush. They are both one-man breakout units and every team would be so lucky to have a player like this on their roster.

Once Brannstrom is given an opportunity at the NHL level, Vegas will become a better team.

Erik Brännström is a two-way d-man.

Yeah.

I can see why the comparison is made, but I don't think Brannström will ever swirl on the blueline the way Ghost does. At the same time I think EB will become the better player because I think he will be fairly decent defensively.
