Just watch Biegs move around the ice and ignore the puck for a few shifts. Then you'll see why his skating was so highly rated and why he's so rarely out of position. He reads the game extremely well, no doubt; but how silky smooth he is moving around the ice, is just as big a part of why he's almost always where he needs to be.

My post was obviously about skating and not about Pierce calling Chris a better skating Vlasic, which translates as good at everything as Vlasic, apart from skating where he's better.

FTR I'm well aware of the fact that Chris was ranked as the best skater in the draft.

He's been the Avs best defenseman for the last month or so. Glad to see him get the goal last night. Was one of the most under the radar top prospects in recent memory and seems to be turning into a solid under the radar you NHL player. He turned 21 like a week ago. Incredible young player.

He was "under the radar" because he was one of the worst WJHC defencemen in history. It was well earned.

WJC means nothing. I saw Bigras play a tonne, due to living in Owen Sound the last couple of years. Knew he would be a decent player.

A two week sample size at the WJ's? People who followed him for his 4 years of junior knew full well that there was a smart two way defender here.

so is Bigras pencilled in to make the team next season? Looking through a lot of posts on here, a lot of people think he will be.

Whats the deal??!!

It's a possibility, but it isn't a lock. The Avs now have EJ, Beauchemin, Barrie, Zadorov, Wiercioch, Tyutin, and Gelinas. It isn't just about him being better than a couple of those guys. He needs to be good enough that he gets real time and matchups. Otherwise he's better off on the first pairing in San Antonio. If he doesn't make the team out of camp, he'll be the first injury call up. I expect he'll be a full time NHLer by the end of the season.

Given how poor the Avs are on d he stands a good chance to make the the team this year.

I wouldn't exactly put it that way. There's a lot more competition than you think but the Avs love him, that's the biggest reason why he'd make the team.

With the signings the Avs have made I am comfortable with Bigras spending his 2ND PRO SEASON in the AHL. I'm sure he'll get a shot late in the season to take a spot permanently.

I think he's in the same situation Zadorov was last year. Good enough to be the Avs 4th/5th best D but management would prefer him playing 25 minutes a night in the AHL than less minutes in the NHL. I guess it depends on whoever is coaching too. If it's a coach who simply wants to ice the best team possible night after night, Bigras will be in the NHL.

My guess is if he walks into camp and fits like a glove with one of Barrie or EJ he will stick but otherwise he will be one of the best hockey players in the AHL next year.

All signs point to another year of "big" minutes in the AHL as it would not make sense to bring him up and have him play 10-14 minutes a night as a 5,6, or 7 defender.

I'm not so sure. I don't expect Wiercioch or Gelinas to impress. So when injuries give Bigras his opportunity, he could well win himself a permanent job by season's end. Especially if he plays well with either Barrie or EJ; since Zadorov-Tyutin seems set in stone.

ej is down for a while, but i mustve missed the bigras injury. anyone have any information, a quick google search gave me nothing solid

You know how the Avs are like the KGB? Well the Rampage are the KGB+ thanks to the Avs being in charge of them. When a player is injured in San Antonio they will literally disappear without a trace. Bigras was last seen alive in holiday photos for SA...but he was hiding his right hand in his sleeve.
