no chance they take him...these last second "rumors" always come out in the hours leading up to the draft....the top choices never change.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Dallas move #3 as part of a Methot deal with Vegas for #6 and then Vegas giving the Devils a couple of picks to move from #3 to #1. Devils selecting Makar at 3 and grabbing a few additional picks in the process makes more sense than just taking him first overall.

Im praying Methot doesn't move the needle on anything involving 3OA.

You wouldn't consider Methot & 6th overall for 3rd overall plus a small add? I think that would be extremely reasonable for a solid top 4 guy to play with Klingberg.

The cost to move up a few spots in the top 5 has traditionally been a high 2nd. A deal where we flip picks and gain Methot would put his value at a high 2nd. I'd rather just trade our high 2nd (39) for Methot and keep 3OA to take Hieskanen.

While I agree with your preference in theory, I think there are other factors involved. Namely GM Jim Nill and Ken Hitchcock wanting to win now. No argument that Heiskanen is the better bet long-term, but it's likely that they would want to ice the best team now with the West as competitive and wide open as it is.

I hear the "win now" comment a lot and it's perfectly valid but I think what gets forgotten is a statement Nill made when he first took the Dallas job. He came in and said he wanted to build a team that contends now and one that is a perennial contender for years to come. The best way to accomplish that is through the draft. With that in mind, I feel you can grab an asset like Methot without compromising your ability to draft of nice prospect at 3.

This isn't the first time I've heard the devils like Makar a lot, I can't remember where else it came from though. Maybe Button or Bob but I'm not sure. Anyhow, I think they will take Nico if they stay at first but could see them make a trade down to snag Makar.

Is there a prefix we can attach to this? Thread title makes it sound more definite than it is.

I remember a day or two before the 2011 Draft that one scout was adamant that the Devils were taking Mika Zibanejad at #4.

I guess we'll see.

Not a prefix, but I added a '?' to the title in an attempt to make it sound less assured.

Makar would be a good fit for the team. Still at #1 overall they have to go Hischier or Patrick with the pick.
