I sense a bit of irony. We can't choose much, that's a fact. Unfortunately, we expected much more from those players. We have to hope for another Jiříčky et al. and that, unlike the previous group, they can do it.

I agree... He was great on that third line with the kids. But he needs more opportunities and minutes in top 6. Hopefully he sticks up there. He should have a career year if he can stay injury free. I was pissed when they got Kane and Tarasenko last year and slotted him down.

Hronek and Hughes is a beauty pairing. 2nd game in a row they dominated my Oilers and 2nd game in a row Hronek led the D in minutes. Beauty start!
Jiricek with a goal and is the 4th Czech D to step into the NHL this season. Our D situation is brutal. Obviously, Jiricek is a comet and a star but he's not there yet. We also 'should' have a good group coming in the near future but I thought that about Galvas, Masin, Musil, Zboril, Hajek (let go off PTO) and Kral.
I looked at our esteemed Extraliga and the leading Czech Dman for points is Tichachek. The leading D scorer is 30 year old Stuart Percy who played 12 NHL games. That is how bad our D is in the Extraliga.

AHL Czechs doing okay. I highlighted who I think may get an NHL game or 2 this season.

I'm a big Klapka fan and would love to see him get some NHL action. Same with Brabenec. Ivan is on a 1 way AHL contract to my knowledge. Zboril needs to be traded. He's not great but he's not AHL. Spacek at least 1 year away but will get there. Maybe 2 years.

Benson outplayed him and not many roster spots were available. Additionally they want him to improve his defense as that's his biggest weakness.

They signed him for Top 6 (where he is useful with PP time) and then signed a few more guys. Now he's bottom 6 (Ottawa has great forwards) where he is useless. He needs to be traded badly to a team that needs scoring.
Look I am not very depressed about that anymore. Those guys like Zboril, Hajek, Simek are honestly not very good.
Rather then desperately clinging on keeping those at best average guys in NHL, we must rather look and root for the youngs guys, where we have multiple top4 D candidades for the years to come.
Of course looking at the state of our D in the NHL right now is depressing, but on the other hand our Ds talent pool fills mě with optimism.

Those are players I cheered for heavily so it sucks to see them not make it. It'd be like if Svozil (3rd rounder) didn't make it or Spacek (redraft). So it sucks. I agree they aren't great and I was wrong in thinking they'd be full time NHLers. So many misses!
The state of Czech D in the NHL is infuriating. Gudas and Hronek are really all we got and Radko probably is on a retirement contract. Jiricek back to the A when Werenski returns (which I'm fine with). Rutta is more 'warm body' than anything else.
It's a strange time.. numbers are down but quality seems to be on the rise. Darkest of times and brightest of times at same time.
