Czechs in North America

I was truly shocked he got a 1 way contract. We need him so hopefully he gets in a lot of games on a very good team.

I’ve come up with the theory that he’s an excellent teammate with a great work ethic. The GM that traded for him is now gone. Drury shouldn’t have the same type of attachment to keeping him as Gorton did, so clearly he’s doing something that doesn’t visibly show up to keep himself around.

This sucks.lol

A: I am a Zohorna fan
B: I am an Oilers fan
C: They already have a giant Czech project in Klapka and I think Zohorna might block Klapka

Can we not space out our giants a little?lol

Just as a quick head's up, Matej Pekar is still recovering from a shoulder injury that required surgery last season. He's going to be around on the big club IR list until he's cleared and then he'll be assigned. That could be a couple more months from what I recall.

Thanks Chainshot.. I figured it was somehting like that because Kulich and Rousek are probably better and they both got sent down!lol

Need to get a Czech on Buffalo again! That franchise has had a lot of good Czechs over the years.. Novotny, Hasek, Smehlik, Kotalik, Spacek, Svoboda and Vaclav Varada. A HOF, National Team level coach x 2, few OG gold medalists and Novotny ended up being our captain for a long time after his NHL career fizzled

Any updates here, Czechboy? Who will be the new Czech faces this season? I've got Blümel in DAL, Sedlak and Kaut (possibly) in COL and Jenik in ARZ, if we consider him a new face. Who else is still up - Lauko in BOS? Kral in TOR?

Ask me in 2 days.lol

Blumel got sent down. Sedlak and Kaut are still kicking in Colorado. Kaut played very few minutes last night but I can't tell if that was a coaches decision or an alledged nut shot. BUT.. if Av's don't want him I think he is wavier eligible now and I'd be surprised if no one claimed him. So he may get waived and still be in NHL on a weaker team on the opening night.

Jenik is battling.. literally.. got in a fight, took out Zegras.

Lauko also isn't getting many minutes but still in camp.

Kral is also battling but I'm not sure what is happening with him at all.

Galvas was sent down... grrrr.

So was Pesan's fav Teply.lol

It's grim!

Zohorna should be on Flame's opening roster... they just cut Milano too.

Everyone else is fringe or already in AHL for the potential surprises.

Lauko is looking good. Hajek looks to play on the bottom pair.

Oh, and Jiricek is still hanging on!

And he was sent down.lol Please trade him to a team that needs a goalie.

Not many teams need a .893 career AHL goalie. But surely Isles should have kept him on the roster based on 48 minutes of pre-season action. Lol indeed.
While you just called a 22 year old G a "career AHL goalie". After he played 65 games in the AHL

I said ".893 career AHL goalie", meaning his AHL career Sv% is .893. Furthermore, his development curve is almost flat, his best statistical season being one that got him drafted 5 years ago.

He has played in the AHL for three seasons and turns 23 in a month, are we going to act 65 games over 3 years is small sample size for the goalie? Or that him being outplayed massively by over-the-hill Cory Schneider last year doesn't tell anything at all? As a matter of fact, during his years in Bridgeport, he got outplayed each season by whoever the other tandem goalie happened to be. So, what are you trying to say exactly?

If you think that's a tradeable prospect I have some land in Florida to sell you. Not to mention that keeping him on the roster would mean you see him as legitimate competition to Sorokin and Varlamov. Do you?

Also, indicative of nothing, Tomas Suchanek was excellent at the prospect tournament before the Sabres regular training camp. I was mildly impressed, given his pedestrian WHL numbers.

.900+ in the CHL on a badly losing team is actually not bad. Only 3 other WHL goalies managed that (.900+ with a losing record) and Suchanek's team wasn't just losing, it was super losing.

Poor Fella goes from weak WHL team to Czech Jr Teams that traditionally get scored on a lot.lol If he ever gets a solid team in front of him, watch out!lol

Second highest ranked international goalie in his draft. He was the fourth goalie taken on his draft day. On the same path as Vanecek and Vladar. Also has a pro season in the Liiga under his belt (like Dostal). He's on path for now and developing exactly how you might think.

I will say though, he sucks for Czech teams.lol

Here is an article about how they retained Schneider to help him transition to NHL

Vanecek got his chance in the NHL after posting .917 season in the AHL. Vladar - after posting .936 and leading the AHL in both Sv% and GAA. Skarek just had a .896 season and you "lol'ed" at the Islanders for sending him down. So on what path, in your totally unbiased opinion, he is is hardly relevant.

I've never watched Škarek catch in the AHL, but he doesn't have good stats there. And what I have seen of his performance in the national team, I unfortunately have to state that he was perhaps the worst goalkeeper in the national team that I have seen in perhaps the last ten years. Personally, I think he's a really bad goalkeeper and I don't really care about his fate. There are a lot of far better Czech goalkeepers who have a good perspective.. Dostál, Vladař, Vaněček, Dobeš, Vejmelka..

He's ahead of

He is on pace with those guys. Not dostal but everyone else. He might actually be ahead of them...

Vejmelka was released by his NHL club after being drafted

Vanecek and Vladar didn't sniff NHL till draft plus 6 I think.

He's now starting draft plus 4. Full year in Finland and AHL already.

Time will tell... But I feel he's right on track. Agree he's awful in national team

Kaut available for free so there goes that dream. Hope a weaker club picks him up and he gets some opportunities. Actual hope my Oil pick him up as a winger.

Zohorna back on waivers after a few days... Ouch.

Sedlak looks to have made it.. so first nice surprise of preseason. Training camps were rough for Czech people.lol

Kral is still up with the Leafs. He's looked very good in preseason. Only 1 or 2 D cuts left to make. Not quite NHL ready, but he'll likely get some games throughout the year. Should play a big role with the Marlies.

Do you think he's near first injury callup status or a few injuries away from a cup of coffee in NHL?

My guess is he's 8th or 9th on the overall depth chart as of today.

Rielly
Muzzin
Brodie
Sandin
Liljegren
Giordano
Holl
Mete
Kral/Benn

Now, keep in mind that the Leafs are not cap compliant carrying 7 healthy D, so that means once everyone is healthy they'll have to trade someone to open up cap space. Assuming that's Holl, we could then carry 7D comfortably. This would move Kral up a spot in the depth chart.
