Cyberpunk 2077 - New RPG by CD PROJEKT RED

Ive been playing it on PS5 and sunk about three hours into it so far. I’ve had one crash no other issues really.

I went in with tempered expectations to be honest. I was not expecting a revolutionary game and honestly, it’s far from revolutionary. I also wasn’t expecting GTA either and as shown by the AI, they can’t do a city like Rockstar can I guess. I have no interest walking around doing nothing and really testing the limits of the NPC AI as I find it boring myself, but that doesn’t invalidate other people wanting to do that. I don’t think it should be compared to GTA is basically my opinion though.

The driving kinda sucks but I’m used to it now, just gotta be gentle since the steering is sensitive. the shooting mechanics are alright, I’m definitely enjoying the story so far as well as the entire cyberpunk aesthetic. The city design is very cool for the most part. If it ends up being a good story with also good story side quests it will probably end up as a very fun game for me with probably a slight disappointment.

When all is said and done I think Ghost and also RDR2 will probably be games I enjoyed more. My gut feeling so far anyway. Witcher is one of my fave games ever and don’t see it surpassing that.

I’m definitely not excusing them for how they treated issues in the game, just relaying my own opinions based on just my gameplay experience so far.

I'm one of the few who aren't disappointed with the game (I'm playing the GOG version). I went into it expecting a Witcher 3-like RPG except with FPS gameplay in a cyberpunk setting. The game delivers on that front. While, like Witcher 3, I wish it delved more into the RPG side of things (it kinda falls into the pseudo-RPG open world game category), I'm still enjoying myself. Night City itself is absolutely gorgeous.

As for the "it doesn't live up to GTA" argument, personally I couldn't care less about that lol. Like I mentioned I was expecting an RPG, not a sandbox.

And for bugs, I've only experienced some humorous visual glitches after around 15 hours of gameplay. No crashes or game breaking bugs.

Been the same after five hours for myself........outside of the obvious lack of driving AI. It's more than the sum of its parts, at least when those parts are working.

Is it just me or are the NPCs done absolutely horribly? The dialogue and reactions to what you do make absolutely zero sense. And I find it weird that no one seems to flinch if you randomly start shooting or punching.

still buggy

was watching a streamer on twitch and he kept trying to talk to the doctor and repay the fee and he couldn't complete the mission

My favorite part of the game thus fas has been being told by Delamain to chase down his cars driven by rogue AI subsections.

I get to the first one and the car goes BEEP BEEP MOTHERf***ER...and then somehow gets itself stuck on the sidewalk between a staircase and a tree.

Starting to see where the "undercooked" comments came from.

I enjoyed the car AI quest line, quite the dark humor. This game clearly needed another year of development and should of never been released on PS4/One. Sucks the Polish government hamstrung CDPR into releasing it in 2021.

If it was any other developer I would be worried but CDPR has my complete trust after the Witcher 3 launch debacle.

I've played about 3 hours on PC and haven't experienced any crashes or anything that I would call huge bugs. I have experienced some issues, though:

* If I enable VSync, the menu randomly freezes up for several seconds.
* If I set a maximum FPS, mouse movement feels sluggish, like strong mouse smoothing is enabled.
* Crouch (toggle) is slow and often doesn't work if I'm pressing any other key or even moving the mouse. The workaround is using Crouch (hold), instead.
* Steering is too sensitive in first person mode. CDPR needs to offer a sensitivity option for vehicle steering that is separate from the first and third person cameras, IMO.

Is it just me or are the NPCs done absolutely horribly? The dialogue and reactions to what you do make absolutely zero sense. And I find it weird that no one seems to flinch if you randomly start shooting or punching.

I'm surprised that no one is talking about how most NPCs around town don't even open their mouths when speaking. I don't necessarily expect lip syncing, but a little bit of mouth movement would be nice. Edit: I just loaded up Dishonored and noticed that it has lip syncing for every NPC. If a game made 8 years and 2 generations ago has that, maybe it's not too much to expect from a next-gen game.

As for the NPCs' reactions to violence, my very limited experience is the opposite. When I got to the first crowded street level area, I punched a woman and everyone in the area (except for the two cops, ironically) ran off, leaving the area virtually deserted. That was kind of cool... but, then, I walked off down the street and came back 10 minutes later and the area was still empty of NPCs. It seems that the game has no AI to allow for NPCs to wander back into and re-populate areas.

My suggestion? Get a motorcycle! I'm flying through the city at 50-150 clicks... love going hard on the brakes screeching the rear tire making the corner, keep on the throttle, get on the reverse throttle at the same time as you corner, you drift through the corner while losing only the speed you need. I'm constantly lane splitting between vehicles, getting places pretty quick until I reach pretty congested areas.

Obviously, drive as traffic allows, gotta slow to a crawl still at busy intersections.

For motorcycles, the driving mechanic works great, pretty clumsy though with cars. I only drive around in 3rd person, the mechanic feels clumsy even for motorcycles in first person.

BTW - I officially love this game! I've never been a fan of first person games, prefer the 3rd person perspective, but the stealth mechanics and game radar are really effective in making this game enjoyable even in first person combat.

I've also never been big on open world, as IMO, it generally removes depth of story. This is the first open world game where it feels open world with a focus. I think the first person perspective really helps, as most conversations aren't cut scenes, but they feel like cut scenes anyway, giving the same depth of perspective with such minor characters as with the important ones. That, and the quests themselves don't feel like fetch quests... go here to get this, go there to get that... feeling so isolated from everything the character is trying to accomplish... the feel truly part of V's life. Something V wants to do, reveals who V really is.

Thus, open world with a focus. I'm addicted!

All cars must assimilate.

They did not move.

Game is really good tbh. Playing on a midish tier PC and haven't had any major bugs and no crashes yet. Game gets better and better too, which I love in games. It did start a bit slow. The AI at times is really bad though, definitely the worst aspect of the game. I've mostly only been doing side gigs (not even the bigger quests) and having alot of fun. Some of these are even somewhat deep, and even Johnny shows up in some. Writing, characters, and the world itself are the best aspects of the game - which was the same as the witcher also.

There's no way I would've bought this on last gen systems though, the wiring was on the wall - not showing any gameplay until weeks before release, and it just being small clips of slow footage.. The ps5/Xbox one x seem pretty good though. Like all games the more you wait the better the product will eventually be though.

Also yea kb+m with and driving is bad. I bought a bike, and it's a lot better.

How big is this games map compared to GTAV and RDR2?
Smaller. It's basically just one big city, and some surrounding area called the badlands. The city is a lot more dense and packed, and more detailed than GTA though. GTA shines in its NPCs though, big difference outside main characters.

AC Valhalla being better than I expected has taken the urgency away for me to play this game. I pre-0rdered on Amazon and didn't even realize my copy also allows me to upgrade to PS5 for free. I'll probably wait until I get a PS5.

I honestly think CP2077 might be the most "f*** you, got mine" game release I can remember. There have been some truly bad ones, but I don't know if it was to this scale.
I don't think anyone is ever going to have a worse release than the last Sim City did.

I'm happy I waited on this one. By the time I get to it, hopefully everything is patched up and I won't need to worry about any of the ongoing problems!

Found this q&a conference call transcript if anyone is interested: https://www.cdprojekt.com/en/wp-content/uploads-en/2020/12/call-transcript_en.pdf

The main thing of note to me (as someone about to start on a PS4 Slim) is that the effort seems concentrated on eliminating bugs and crashes. It sounds like they want to root them out with the next update, and then continue with what will clearly be more ambitious patches in January and February. Hard not to arrive at the conclusion that the console experience would be significantly better in February, such that preordering was truly a moot point – this is the widespread consensus, and they all but admit it on the call, though my own personal sense is that it's hard to actually contextualize the playability of console versions given all the noise and chatter.

I've seen people relaying that it's mostly fine, whereas there are tons and tons of comments from people just saying that the game is unplayable. I will probably report back way later today, but I finally just decided to load the game and get the updates last night, since the hassle of a refund wasn't worth it to me. I had the added bonus of a credit card related bonus for it, bringing the "total spent" to $35-40, so that may be a factor, but I imagine for any ambivalent base owners, the combination of laziness and free next-gen upgrade are a big factor. Ultimately, if I play for 5-6 hours and there is too much jank or crashing for me, I'll just put it back on the shelf and wait.

The other notable thing I gleaned from a scan of that q&a is that they consider AI and NPC behavior as among the "performance issues" to be patched. I have no idea how these things work, so I'm just trying to relay information. The widespread consensus is now that they screwed up, so I think they deserve to take heat from that, even if improving these factors might really help the overall game. My gut feeling is that their reputation has taken a pretty permanent hit, even if the actual financial situation hasn't been largely affected.

Interestingly, someone asks if they are considering an eventual large, free DLC as a way to win back people's confidence and they totally punt on answering. That's probably because they don't want to make any comments on DLC at all while they have several months of making the base game adequate, but I do think that something analogous to that is the only way they will be able to win back any of their reputation.
