Cyberpunk 2077 - New RPG by CD PROJEKT RED

Apparently a couple of people have gotten the game and attempted to stream it but had it shut down obviously. Probably lacking the day 1 patch too. I saw a few bits of I think base PS4 before it was shut down and the game looked fairly decent to me, thought I'm not overly obsessed with graphics.

I've also seen a few people saying that their Best Buy preorders are confirmed to ship early, which maybe means we are definitely not having another delay at this point.

My base PS4 has been acting up a bit over the past year. Random shutdowns on rests and some slowdown in games at times. Not sure it's going to survive Cyberpunk...

Can someone give me the short version of why theres so much hype for this game? I feel like I've been hearing about it for years but know little about it and theres not much in the way of screenshots online. What games does it compare to?

For me, it's the newest project by the developers of my favorite game of all time (The Witcher 3) which they've spent almost 4 years developing. CDPR has maximum faith and credibility with me. It's like your favorite author who has never put out anything you didn't like dropping a new book.

I never played the witcher (I liked the show) but maybe I should. I'll likely buy Cyberpunk simply based on the hype tbh. The only time I've been let down with game hype was COD advanced warfare.

It's only reached this level of hype because it's from the developers of The Witcher 3. Personally I'm looking forward to it because it basically looks like the first person Fallout game we never got. A true RPG with lots of choices and consequence, and actually decent combat.

Did advanced warfare have hype? I remember the trailer had like a million downvotes.

I'm probably something of an anomaly in that I'm excited for the game but haven't played any of the Witcher games, or even really any first-person open world RPGs. I'm mostly intrigued by the world and theme, enough that I decided to just give it a go with a preorder. The timing works pretty well for me as my teaching semester wraps up early next week, capped off by my dissertation defense.

I think some of the advertising gives off a FPS type of vibe, or even something close to GTA, so it'll be interesting to see how people receive it. All of the previews are pushing against this, and I assume the reviews will as well, but that's the impression I am getting from the ads and PR I've seen.

I'm a little bit apprehensive about performance issues, largely because I am cheap / do not want my slim PS4 bricked or anything, but I am not overly worried about that. There's a little bit of a leap of faith required in terms of all these delays, word that the latest was to get the current (or previous I guess) console performance sharpened, but I think some of the noise is due to hardcore gamers and PC players with the latest rigs. I can see how the maximum performance is nowhere close, but I've seen similar type of stuff thrown out about RDR2 or other games, so I'm not especially worried.

The thing I'm more apprehensive about is first-person, which is not my favorite, but I haven't given many games much of a shot.

In short it appears to be a better Skyrim in a badass Cyperpunk universe.

CDPR have earned a reputation for their fantastic writing and world building. The sidequests in the Witcher were so detailed and fleshed out, really the best we've ever seen for an open world game imo. So I'm expecting a lot more nuance and intelligence in the storytelling and role-playing compared to most games. Basically everything they've done has been quality and this is the game they've put the most resources into, so people are pumped.

Advanced Warfare was one of those games I hyped up back in the day as well, damn was it bad in retrospect.

As for Cyberpunk 2077, it's essentially a story driven RPG that also acts as a bridge between the current and next generation of games. I have zero clue as to how it will maintain a decent framerate on current gen consoles.

And yes, Witcher III is absolutely worth trying even today.

The game's minimum specs on PC for 1080p at low settings call for a GTX 780, a significantly better GPU than that of the base PS4. Likely the game will run at lower than 1080p, probably with a variable resolution at lower settings than the PC's low preset while aiming for 30 FPS. But this is all my speculation.

Is there actual reason to be concerned this game won't work on a base PS4? I don't care one bit about how downgraded the graphics are but I'd like to be able to finish the game.

I don't think so. I don't really know the full ins and outs of these details, but with the game being certfied as Gold, I think any worry like that is just extreme speculation going around because of all the chatter on this game. But I am curious to hear from others who might have a more precise understanding.

Nope. The game will 100% be playable on a PS4, perhaps choppy but it’ll play.

Is it going to be released on next gen? I only see PS4 and Xbox One.

There is going to be a patch at launch that increases performance of PS4/XBO version on next gen(dont think they have said exactly what this is). But full next gen version isn't being released until 2021

Mine sounds like a jet taking off when it's trying to run games lately... Cyberpunk might kill it off.

Oh well. Easier to convince the wife I need the nextgen system that way.

For me, the hype comes from the fact that this game was developed by the people who won Role Playing Game of the Year at the Game Awards with an expansion. As far as I know, that's unprecedented.

Apparently the map is 2-3 times the size of GTA V. As interesting as that sounds, I hope it's not too overwhelming. Super excited for Friday, though! Game is pre-downloaded on my Series X. I'm also going to post something on Twitter, and while it's not really a spoiler, I'll throw it in the spoiler tags. It has to do with player customization.

You can customize your genitals, penis size and pubic hair style.

Does the 2-3 times include verticality, or did they mean just the city area? Cause GTA V's map is pretty f***ing huge.
