Raymond should have another year. I don't think we've seen the best of him.

11 goals in 37 games; if we extrapolate that to an 82 game season; that's 24 goals; pretty much exactly what we're paying him to do.

I think next year when our lineup is a bit more concrete; you will see him pick up more assists and overall points. He's a good scoring tween winger with a lot of speed to burn; it's nice having a 20 goal guy on your third line.

Yeah honestly Raymond has been what was advertised. Streaky point producer who is pretty one-dimensional.

I still think he can be better. Right now we've seen the goals, but I want to see if he can pick up some assists too. I see him more of a 20-20 kind of guy, not a 25-10.

Could be. Could be they initially asked the Ducks for a 1st+, and the Ducks balked. They might be willing to give a 2nd. Guess we shall wait and see.

I know that's what Burkie did with Cammy to, he fielded calls early and starting the bidding likely at a first. I don't think he was in any rush to move him because he was hoping the prices would go up from getting multiple offers. Looking at last year, that came back and bit us pretty hard, but the market was saturated and caused the demand to fall. I really don't see that happening this time due to supply and demand. I don't think we're going to create a bidding war by any stretch because of his list, but we only need 2-3 teams interested on his list to get market value. Chicago apparently is interested but needs to wait until the last day.

This is speculation on my part, but I think Glencross is motivated to move on. I think he wanted to stay here but wanted a good raise and he's not going to get it, so now he wants a Cup. And he's totally earned that.

For sure;
As I mentioned I think next year we'll see some more assists from him when he regularly has a line he can play on. It kind of seems the Raymond - Granlund/Jooris - Glencross line is kind of thrown together... and doesn't really generate much outside of rushes going back the other way the past few games.

In a world where Paul f'ing Gaustad returned a first, this is absolutely false. I'm going to go ahead and assume you're new to the hockey world.

I would absolutely shoot for Connolly.

Yeah, exactly what DBU said.

If you actually thought Gaustad returning a first is acceptable in such a world, I'm going to assume you're new to the hockey world

That was a horrible trade then, and it still is now. It's absolutely hilarious Poile didn't get fired after that trade.

Meh, he got Forsberg for Erat.

His history agrees with you, but just watching him I don't know if he has that in him as he seems to get impatient with tunnel vision except for like, one shift where he played some cycle game with I think Backlund. To be honest, even with Glencross gone, Brad's got some work cut out for himself next season with so many forwards and so few spots to give them, assuming the current top 6 (Bouma/Backlund/Jones/Gaudreau/Monahan/Hudler) is intact for at least next year:

Bennett
Byron
Jooris
Colborne
Stajan
Shore
Baertschi
Raymond
Wolf
Bollig

Luckily Granlund is still waiver-eligible next year so, but that's still ten spots with glencross gone, only eight of which are available. AFAIK none of those guys can be sent down to Stockton without clearing waivers (Bennett can still be sent down to Kingston, but it's highly unlikely for obvious reasons).

...Easy to hope Bollig is one odd man out, but we need to lose one other just to have a 22 man roster, unless you want to run 6 Dmen (which might make sense if callups really become that much more efficient).

...There's always the possibility we don't bring back Wolf, Jooris or Byron, but those guys have shown so much this season in my opinion. Some people are convinced it'll be Sven, but he's the same age Tatar, Nyquist etc were before they finally forced Detroit's hand. I'm not sure it's the right time to give up on this guy as he's STILL one of the more skilled young players we've got.

Raymond brings scoring and speed, but he'll be 30 and isn't part of the long term plan. He's soft on the puck and while that'd be fine for a dominant possession team, it's a mediocre fit for the Flames. I like that he's a Calgarian and probably bleeds a C of Red but it's one of those things where you have to take the emotion out of it and just evaluate it from a business perspective.

Stajan's the other option to move, but I suspect they want to keep at least one veteran center around to help with Bennett's development (unless they feel Backlund is ready for that role). Either way Stajan's term and NTC make him one of the tougher players to move in the off season.

The last option is taking Jones out of the top 6 and moving him, but I imagine Treliving waits until closer to the trade deadline on that one? And we'd probably have to eat some salary there. The main question is "Who earns the top 6 RW role away from Jones". I have a suspicion Jooris might be a great fit there but I don't know as much about hockey as Bob Hartley.

For all we know, we keep Brandon Bollig. :(

I wonder if now that Poirier is up with the big club we might be seeing our last few games of Curtis Glencross.

Raymond's awfully redundant and they're a number of prospects with a higher ceiling that are knocking on the door. I rather let Baertschi/Granlund/Bennett/Poirier take his spot next season.

Letting only Glencross go does little to alleviate the dire need for roster spots up front given the number of players in the system pushing for a role (Bennett, Poirier, Granlund) or those who lose their waiver exemption next season (Baertschi, Shore, Reinhart, Ferland, Wolf, Elson, Hanowski)

True enough, keep in mind though I think at sometime in the near future we see some of those forward prospects packaged up for some help on D. Which should alleviate the problem a little bit.

Any team outside the playoffs

I thought that, but NJ, PHI and EDM IMO come to mind with mild interest.

NJ, Lou never tanks probably most likely wont be a buyer
PHI, depending on the situation PHI will, grab a player just so PIT can't get em.
EDN, former Oiler and the type of player the Oilers are lacking.

That's true. Just easier said than done. With Myers and Kane traded, there's not many, if any, young, disgruntled/available for trade potential stars out there.

The Devils, Penguins and Habs all have a surplus of young defensemen though. Suspect we'll see something worked out with one of them.

Pitt doesn't have a ton of forward depth, perhaps we move a combination of guys for a good young dman.

I would prefer to separate the "combination of guys" trade from the Glencross trade, as this one has so few potential trading partners that you're limiting your options.

...I'm eyeing a few of New Jersey's young dmen. Severson, Larsson, Scarlett, and Gaudreau's former teammate Santini. I know they could sure use some young forwards.

Not a chance in hell that Edmonton has interest in a pending free agent. In the offseason? Absolutely.
