Who do you want the Devils to take at #2 assuming Wright goes 1st overall?

A little click-baity but the analyst is saying Nemec is in the mix of discussion and possibility at 2. Says he won’t last past 4.
 
I would be very happy with Wright/slafkovsky/nemec/jiricek and even gauthier but I think I would feel disappointed overall with Cooley.

Don’t care. It’s too high. If other teams want to reach then let them reach. 30-36 on Bob’s list is Mesar, Rinzel, Luneau, Beck, Firkus, Hughes, Odelius. At least one of them will be there at 37 long with other good players. There’s going to be better options than Leinonen. Leinonen’s a good goalie prospect. He’s not a lights out guy

If he was a lights out guy, he's not there at 37. He'd be fine at that pick.

I hate getting into fit talks but I think when you're splitting hairs like you'd be doing between the 2D then it's relevant. Nemec is just a bad fit in comparison to Jiricek. I know STI likes Nemec's defense but I've seen more people down on it than people who speak positively of it. Nemec is a good puck rushing offensive Dman. His value gets diminished in a place like this with him likely being behind both Dougie and Luke as PP options and he's not a good fit in our top 4. If we're going to go Dman then Jiricek's the better option.

He won't be there. Goalies aren't easy to project but his tools are there. I'm fine with whatever we do at 37 since there's nobody I'd hate (like Stillman) to grab there. I like Leinonen's tools. If they feel he's got 1A upside, I'm fine with gambling there.

Go look at all the rankings listed on EP. They're FAR FAR lower than 37. The highest is 62. Then a 71. Nothing else is top 90. I'm not reaching there when there's going to be good skater options. If the pickings are slim at 70 then I consider Leinonen or Brennan if they're there. If they're not then "oh well".

We'll revisit on Thursday/Friday. Outside rankings don't mean much when you get beyond the top 20 or so.

if we are talking about nemec and jiricek, we shouldn't expect them on the nhl roster before the d+3 season, maybe even later. they can also start out on the bottom pairing. no shame to it, if the devils are hopefully a contender.

Great list, though if we took Odelius I think we'd all be a bit upset. We really don't need to fill the #4 LD slot on our prospect rankings with a pick we can use for a player who would be the #1 C or #1 RD or #2 RW. Devils should avoid LD this draft unless there is an obvious steal available, like if Koromyslov, Grudinin or Hamara fall especially late. But in the 2nd round? No way.

I'd rather take a chance on an upside goalie later, like Kokko or Zhigalov. The #37 pick is too valuable in a draft which would have several players who would immediately become our #1 prospect RD (Rinzel, Warren, Barabosha, Casey) and several players who would become our #1 prospect C (Beck, Hughes, Sapovaliv, Del Bel Belluz, Kaskimaki) and several players who would become our #1 prospect power forward (Schaefer, Nyman, Dolzhenkov). Not to mention the chance a truly high end player could fall, like Firkus, Perevalov, Trikozov or even perhaps Miroshnichenko.

The #37 pick this year is huge, especially after the Devils poorly reached on #29 with Stillman and very poorly reached with #68 on Salminen last year.

I don't disagree whatsoever. Nowhere did I advocate for taking Leinonen at 37, I just said that he's who I expect and that outside rankings mean nothing at that point of the draft. I'm fine taking a chance on someone with 1A upside, should we deem Leinonen that. I'm no good with goalies (and they're all pretty much dart board throws when non-elite prospects) but I wouldn't besmirch Fitzgerald and Castron should they feel he's worth 37.

Draft Slafkovsky or Wright.

Only other thing I’d be happy with is a reasonable trade for a big time impactful player who is getting resigned and isn’t old. That isn’t very likely and unless it’s someone like Tkachuk I’d rather just pick

If we’re trading back which I don’t think we should I’d want Nemec and be disappointed with anyone else.
