I believe Power is the next Tyler Seguin. He will be traded and flourish into an incredible number 1 Dman

Rather than going back and forth more, I am going to defer back to this unanswered question...

"What does Owen Power do effectively that would merit this commitment?"

No one has made an effective argument for why the UHC should give up Crouse + to take on a long term $8m+ contract for Power.
Same reason that Arizona gave Keller, Schmaltz, Chychrun long term contracts... Same reason Vancouver gave it to Hughes, Edmonton with Draisaitl....Suzuki, Strutzle, Tkatchuk, Jack Hughes. Do we need more examples? Heiskanen... Do a degree you can say Boldy, Dahlin as well.

You're paying now, making a gamble so that the contract becomes a steal, especially as the cap increases.

As for what Power does well. He breaks up play in the neutral zone, he is a great passer, very difficult to get around him and WHEN he gets up to 230+ it will be even more difficult, along with how well he will clear out the front of the net when he does get to that size (but thats potential so lets not use it in the example now)...he may not hit but he's solid along the boards, We already know he's reliable in the offensive zone considering thats all even his haters are giving him credit for and he's putting up points without getting much PP time behind Dalhin (1:36min per game last season).
Does he make mental lapses in the defensive zone.. yes, but there are so few D that don't at that age(especially on that list of players you provided to compare him to). He's also not very thick for his size yet. He's over paid by about 1 million- maybe 1.5mill right now for what he can bring.. in a couple years that contract will likely look like a steal... just like ALL the contracts that were listed earlier.

Now can we drop this insane narrative that Owen Power is not a good player with a ton of potential still. His contract is absolutely appropriate for what the team was trying to achieve from it and will eventually be a bargain for the 40-50 point two-way D he's well on his pace to become. And if he had signed a bridge deal then Buffalo likely would have ended up paying more down the road.

Now lets have the Crouse thread get back to Crouse. I'm feeling bad for the others who have to deal with this becoming an Owen Power thread. He was only brought up because of an unlikely pipe dream scenario to begin with.

I'm not sure why Buffalo wouldn't just keep him. They have a #1 in Power and a franchise D in Dahlin.
They just acquired Byram. byram wanted a trade because of playing time. He won’t be happier in buffalo so that is driving speculation that someone is going to be moved.

As long as Byram can play his off side, there shouldn't be a problem.

There's a difference between being able to and being fully effective. Especially to some coaches. I've seen coaches that absolutely hated playing D on their off side.

Yep, and Utah would make the most sense for fresh new start. Power or Byram be instantly be on first defense line. They have plenty of cap space and quite a bit of draft picks/prospects.

Hello, Power won't be traded. Don't let physicality obsessed HF posters have you believe otherwise
