Mercer was largely responsible for three PP goals allowed. This loss is on him. I don’t think he was even benched. This is the first time I’ve been annoyed by Keefe. I’ll get over it.
I disagree. The Devils have Nico, Bratt, Jack (probably Noesen and Hamilton too). They are essentially keeping the Devils at an above average level of play. The defense has generally better as well but if their anchor players don't pick it up, they will be drowning in 5-3 losses.

We did against Nashville, who everybody seems to look good against.
Even the worthless Flyers tied the game against them with 11 seconds left the game after they play us, then won it in OT over them.

I was more annoyed we tied that quickly in the 3rd, only to lose on an awful defensive zone trap for 60-70 minutes, followed by a goalie gaffe.
I’d rather have seen Dowling get his third period minutes. I’m all for holding players accountable. Keefe did it with Cotter, benching him for an entire third period…why does Mercer get off scott free?
So happy to watch that in person... Just constantly shooting themselves in the foot.
Nice to see Allen taking ownership but I think he’s being too hard on himself saying “he cost the boys the game.” That distinction belongs to Mercer.

It should belong to Mercer, but somehow we came back and scored two quick ones. We probably shouldn't have. All that did was make the coupe de grace in the 3rd period even more painful than it felt at the end of the 2nd.

I don’t think it’s completely his fault. His stick gets slashed and in an attempt to “raise it” hits the Caps in the face.
Also intra division games are a toss up. These teams know how to play each other.
The biggest question mark, is still the shutouts against crap teams. Ironically the metro has leveled out. The Devils need to right the ship quickly.

I don't think he was bad per se, but that unintentional penalty definitely cost us. Hopefully he steps up next game, we're gonna need it against the Rangers.
