Mercer's penalty really sucked but it was obviously unintentional, he was going for a stick lift and unfortunately it missed and hit the guys face and unfortunately it drew blood.

Maybe I missed the replay, but did they ever show the unsportsmanlike that Cotter got? Because the Caps player got a real penalty, and usually when that happens it means the unsportsmanlike was a bullshit call and they just wanted to game manage by giving us something to offset their legit penalty.

Neither was that Cotter penalty. Mercer's play tonight was way worse.
I agree with that. Thing is, I'm pretty sure Keefe mentioned that Cotter had a few penalties before getting benched, happened a few times. If I remember correctly, this was Mercer's first big event.

I was more annoyed we tied that quickly in the 3rd, only to lose on an awful defensive zone trap for 60-70 minutes, followed by a goalie gaffe.
They're not good at clearing the zone when they need to and get penned in their own end for way too long when they clean that up they will be winning these types of games.

It should belong to Mercer, but somehow we came back and scored two quick ones. We probably shouldn't have. All that did was make the coupe de grace in the 3rd period even more painful than it felt at the end of the 2nd.
If you told me after the second period the final would be 6-5, I’d have assumed the Caps made it 6-2 or 6-3 before a junktime surge lol

End of the day they shot themselves in the foot.

Bad penality blew a lead and gifted them two goals. Then gifted them two more bad goals after getting it tied late in the 3rd.

Caps are a good team and you can't spot good teams easy goals like that.

Bounce back Monday, get a 3 day break, then a long home stand.
Rather it be a road trip at this point.

Cotter shoved a caps guy either into the bench or pushed the guy leaning over from the bench back into the bench. Couldn't fully tell but this is from a live look though. I was sitting left back 108s section on bench side. It definitely seemed like something, got a roar from the crowd either way.

Him being stupid doesn’t surprise me any more than the refs being biased would have

Yet to see replays from interviews, just got home.

This game felt like a Ruff 3rd period game. Clowning around in our own zone looking like chickens chasing the play. Allen should have frozen it in hindsight. That was Luke and Pesce, I think? First time I can recall this season they looked out of sorts in the backend zone.

Upset we couldn't cling onto 6 mins to get a point. It was a heroic 3rd period claw back the first 2 goal deficit and then then wagon wheels just f***ing fell off (Lindy system style). The second clawback attempt was a tease. Nice try but it was too much to expect.

Refs were terrible but it wasn't why we lost. Mercer/Allen, some bad d zone play by I think the 3rd line a lot of the game. (Going from memory)

Yeah a lot of people blamed only the coaches and not the golden kid roster but they have to take some agency for this crap too. Six goals against and basically every one was either a bonehead play or caused by one. Not showing up the first two periods, the too little too late rallies, guess those weren’t just coaching issues

I really think Keefe is the right coach for this group. I like how they play generally, especially defensively, and I feel like their 5v5 game is picking up as the games go on. I think we have a good team.

I just love what Keefe has to say nightly, and it seems like the guys have absorbed his system. Seems like they've bought in.

How this team plays vs the 2023-2024 is night and day, and there's something special brewing here in the next few years with Sheldon behind the bench imo.

A lot of this game is definitely on the players (a few of them). The whole unit. The 3rd line and jack line was hemmed in a lot, for a few of their shifts.

We had greasy goals, we had some lucky ones, but if we cannot clear the puck out of our zone when we had chances (that 5-4 goal against was a killer). I knew it as soon as it was at the blue line battle we lost the 50/50 it came back around and then... It was toast. Allen didn't cover it for some reason and the guys went chasing immediately again.

Le Sigh. Allen went from hero to zero this game. Kinda feel bad. Mercer had a bad game. Not shooting on that covered 2v1 yet another play Mercer refuses to shoot. I feel like the units deserves the blame, but Allen put it right on a platter tonight.

Games like these happen a lot less this year though. The team plays a way more responsible defensive game and they've played a way better, more disciplined, brand of hockey this year. Will games where they lose their game a bit happen? Sure, happens to even the best of them. Looked at the Canes highlights today. Wasn't pretty in their own zone. Still an elite team.

Very little credit given to this team for the steps taken, but let's zone in on one negative performance to paint the whole picture. Unfortunate.

Wow Allen definitely took the responsibility for this one. Like no hesitation and pretty definitively in the media. Hope there is motivation for Monday.....
