This league is better than a soap opera!!! Every year it has had mass changes of teams, year 1 (2016-17) started with 11 teams, Burk's Falls, Ottawa (later Almonte), Akwesasne, Coldwater, Muskoka, Seaforth, O-Town, Essa, Glengarry, Grey Highlands, and Norwood. Burk's Falls changed owners the first year, before the season even started, delayed their start, and eventually left due to a lack of players. Akwesasne and Coldwater never started, also due to lack of players. Ottawa won season 1 then, along with O-Town, were turfed from the league. Glengarry became Smith Falls and Norwood became Cobourg.
Season 2 (2017-18) started with returning Muskoka, Seaforth, Essa, Glengarry/Smith Falls, Grey Highlands, and Cobourg joined by Coldwater, Bracebridge, Brampton, Creemore, and Madawaska. The Almonte Sharpshooters had gone to greener pastures in the eyes of the OP, joining the NCPHL, which folded and brought Almonte back to the CPJHL along with EOHA, Lake Erie, and Maniwaki. The league was getting closer to the 16 that the OP promised. BUT, before the season really got in full swing, Creemore, Brampton, Cobourg, Muskoka and Madawaska were gone. Brampton merged with Grey Highlands because neither team could ice a team. Lake Erie were allowed to delay their start 7 weeks, due to costs (great checks and balances- should have known that before signing up). In the playoffs EOHA and Almonte, both owned by the OP, decided that their lack of players allowed them to cheat, so they pooled resources for 2 games and later got turfed AGAIN. Seaforth was allowed to recruit 5 players from local Junior C teams to play their final regular season game, and 1 game playoff, but were not allowed to use them against the league owner's team in the next series. Essa with their own rules for import players eventually won season 2.
Season 3 started with returnees Seaforth, Essa, Smith Falls, Grey Highlands, Coldwater, Bracebridge, and Maniwaki joined by another attempt by Brampton, another try by Muskoka, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Universel College Unik, Shawville and Wexford. Lake Erie left, re-branded and eventually folded in another league. Niagara-on-the-Lake jumped ship before the season started, going to the more stable GMHL. Universel College Unik and Bracebridge folded before playing a game. Shawville remains on the CPJHL schedule, but haven't played a game and no longer exist. So then there was 9.....but how strong are the 9? Brampton has been re-branded the Greater Toronto Jaguars "due to ownership failing to meet the minimum requirements set forth by the league." Truth is they had more forfeits than wins, and were icing some players that would struggle to make a decent Juvenile team let alone play "Junior Hockey". A you tube search of their game action would show the depth of their despair. But a quick way to improve them is to give them a new name. LOL. A look at their last game sheet shows 6 skaters and a goalie dressed for a road game in Smith Falls, a goalie less than the 6 and 2 they dressed the night before. "Checks and balances" have disappeared as has player safety.
