I would take those future packages and pick up a 2C and a 4D. Would consider moving Byram for a 2C. Something like Joker+Kulich for the D and 1st+ Rosen+Krebs for the C. Idk who could shake loose though.
Hey that Middlestadt guy in Colorado is doing pretty well as a 2c, maybe he would be available!

In all seriousness, I think BUF screwed themselves by being too cheap (both with future assets and real dollars) in the summer. Just don't know who is out there that's even theoretically available and moves the needle for this team. Provorov? Matheson? Fowler? Laughton? All good players but more the types that make a good team even better and don't help a bad team become good. I don't even see the Hertl-type guy that no one thinks is available but all of the sudden gets moved. Thomas? Kyrou? Werenski? Kadri? All of them seem much less gettable than Hertl last year.

Their best hope is giving like $15M a year to Marner or Rantanen in the summer.

Can you find a player like that? Without trade protection and who is not UFA at the end of the season. And also, that a team would want to trade him in November.
Always a chance, but it will require a team starting a rebuild most likely.

Hertl was my guy too, wanted to get him.

Mitts has had a rough patch in the last three weeks: 3 assists in his last 8 games, something like 9 GA -1 GF at 5-on-5 for him and his line in that time. Everyone goes through hard times and he's having some.

Sabres fans will think it's a joke because they overrate their prospects and think they're all elite. But, this proposed offer carries more risk for the Flyers, tbh.

Laughton is a very solid two-way center who happens to score big goals at opportune times. He's in the Mike Peca mold, albeit not as good as prime Peca. But Laughton is a great character guy and leader. He's the exact type of player the Sabres could use with their young core.

Farabee is a decent-sized winger with some jam. His offense has declined a bit but he is skilled and likes to battle. Again, another type of player the Sabres could use.

Zamula is a nice, reliable D with good size who could be spotted on PP2 for the Sabres if needed.

In return, the Flyers get Byram, who is a very nice puck-moving D. Yes, he is a tad redundant with Drysdale, York, and Andrea, but he has skill and the Flyers still need to find the right type of player to click on the PP point... Drysdale hasn't been it, unfortunately. The issue with Byram though is, like Drysdale, he tends to get dinged up a lot.

Ostlund is a nice prospect but he's an unknown at the NHL level and the Sabres are loaded with smaller, skilled youngsters... Peterka, Quinn, Benson, Kulich, Rosen, Helenius, etc. ... and they can't play them all. At some point, they need to move a couple of them for proven assets who can bring other elements and intangibles to the ice... not just flashy prospect highlights.

If Ostlund doesn't pay dividends for 2 more years, the Flyers are giving up 3 proven NHLers for Byram. And the Sabres definitely take the next step.
Swap Byram for Power and it's a good trade

Even without the swap, this is a bad deal for Buffalo, and you still want Power, come on.
Flyers need centers and big/mobile/puck-moving D. I didn't propose the original trade, just saying I'd rather have Power.

I have a hard time seeing the flyers get the value for farabee/frost/Laughton etc that they could have when their value was still highest.

If there is a trade with Calgary, I hope humongous d-man Kevin Bahl is one of the Flames arriving in Buffalo. He's younger and bigger than Connor Clifton, while making quite a bit less to do a similar job, hitting and blocking shots.

Probably not considering the Flames sought him out in the Markstrom trade.
He's been excellent for us. Him and Andersson play a lot of really hard minutes for this club, he does first PK; and all around has been an excellent acquisition. Type of player that doesn't make a lot of noise, but 2-3 years from now people will be like 'wait, where'd this guy come from with these defensive metrics?'

Flames are for sure open to business knowing Conroy. They've circled on Krebs in the past, and I'm sure they'll look at him some more.
It's shitty, because Calgary has a lot of solutions for other teams; they have these excellent middle 6 guys through the lineup that would help a lot of winning clubs... the issue being a lot of them have bloated contracts or clauses... which really limit how many guys would agree to go to Buffalo (sorry, but we deal with it too in Calgary, people don't like to come here).

Guys like Backlund, Kadri and Coleman make teams better; but Backlund is likely a career Flame, and Kadri/Coleman come with big contracts and control. Prior to injury Mantha would have been a good candidate. There's also Kuzmenko who can add offense everywhere, but comes with limitations to how he plays a complete game.

Well, this is just bad value for Buffalo. The only player in this deal that Buffalo might be interested in is Farabee, but I wouldn't trade him even for Byram one-on-one, since Byram plays a lot of minutes on the first pair and we'll have a hole there. Laughton is just bad, and we don't need Zamula.

The first thing Buffalo needs is a defensive top 4 RD, and ideally a 2C, if they can't find a 2C, maybe at least a top 6 W, so Farabee could theoretically be of interest.

Probably not considering the Flames sought him out in the Markstrom trade.

The most interesting player from Calgary for Buffalo is Weegar, but it will probably be difficult to trade for him.

This is hot garbage

Zamula is LD. Laughton I want no part of. Farabee is only 6 ft. Hes small.

You want ostlund and Power_/byram for that???
