Good teams find ways to win hockey games even when they are minus their best player. Rangers did that tonight and it makes it better when it's done on the 2nd game in two nights.

JT Miller gets a lot of hate here. I think he's been really good so far this season. He is creating chances every game and it doesn't matter if it's from 2nd or the 3rd line. He's been physical and he has been a factor. Gotta wonder if this progression continues what does that do on the trade market.

Vesey is definitely gaining confidence. It's funny... I feel like he is the one creating slit of the plays for his line. Thinking the vets should be setting him up. Vesey tonight set both Nash and Steps up with some reall good chances. Worth mentioning Vesey also had chances on his own and failed to convert...but, no question. He again was a factor tonight. Glad AV kept him with Stepan. He belongs in the top 6 with the Rangers, not in the AHL.

Happy to see Girardi put one in.

McDonagh is playing like a warrior again.

This narrative is getting old. They've scored 22 goals this season, the Capitals and Penguins each have 13.

Also I checked their shooting % during the game when people were saying they can't finish. 8th in the NHL at 11.73%. 2nd in the NHL last year, 6th the year they won the PT.

Take out the 7 goal fluke vs SJ and....they'd still have more than the WAS and PIT juggernauts? :naughty:

Jimmy Vesey was quietly good again.

He's a very attractive hockey player. Does a little bit of everything pretty well. He's the right linemate for Stepan who has a cerebral game but lacks the raw physical talent.

I'm intrigued by your use of the word quietly here. How was Vesey quiet? He made a bunch of great passes tonight, should've had a goal early on but the puck rolled onto the heel of his stick and he shanked it wide, and overall was the driving catalyst on that line. If anyone had a quietly great game, it was Derek Stepan. He's been a two-way force all season and deserves a better stat-line than 0-3-3. I thought he was gonna roof Vesey's pass far side in the 3rd, but Domingue made a good save. The offense will come for both he and Nash if they keep playing this way.

the rest of this team has been good enough i think to survive one of girardi or holden but it can't be both.

also hayes is the worst player on the team through six games and if i'm the coach he's watching wednesday.

Hard to disagree with MH on this. Hayes' line hasn't been generating offense or inflicting any sustained pressure on the O-zone. It's been the first 2 lines and at times the 4th line that have created all the offense. The 3rd line has been MIA. Hayes has pretty much sucked.

Well, coming off a two-goal night, one of them a highlight reel goal...

im not sure its awful....i think its mediocre at best...i think the current deployment is making it seem a lot worse than it really is.

id REALLY like to see McDonagh - Clendening
Staal - Skjei
Holden - Girardi

just for a game...assuming McIlrath is done in a rangers uniform.

Came after watching the walking dead to see we won 3-2. Then I saw that Girardi scored the GWG and got the first star of the game. Good for him. Good for us.

This team is as interesting as I have seen in a long time. I'll say it again. Our least exciting game so far this season still beats the **** out of most exciting game next season.

Team played OK tonight on a tough b2b, but clendening MUST play on Wednesday. He has to play over girardi or Holden. Girardi played decent tonight, plus got the game winner so you can throw him sitting out the window. Clendening is our 2nd best puck moving d-man and a pp point man. He's gotta play.

He is not going to so accept it. Unless someone gets injured he will go with the better defensive player.

How did they play awful!? They were coming off a tough divisional game, had to travel and on a b2b. Yes they got out corsi'd, but they had a huge advantage in high danger shots: 17-5. Arizona had the quantity, Rangers had the quality. They will be fine, as long as clendening gets back in there:yo:

Clendening isn't even bad defensively. He had the bad clear last night, but that's really it. Of course he has to be sheltered, but he is an important driver of offense from the back end.

The team will be fine until the defense breaks down and teams start adjusting to what the Rangers forwards are doing by taking the puck out of the zone themselves.

The defense as it is currently wont hold up for the longevity of the season. At some point the goal scoring will run a dry spell and Hank may hit a rough patch and can't cover up for them.

Sittin back and being okay with the status quo on D and hoping the team can score 5 a night and outscore their opponent is bad strategy

He's missed the net a bunch
To say the least lol. How many individual shot attempts does he have? He must be missing like 66% of his shots.

Should be 6-0 but Hutton and Howard had to play the best games of their lives.

Actually two guys who have played the games of their lives against us before so not shocking lol.
I believe Hutton may have even shut us out when he was with Nashville if my memory serves correct.
Anyhow yes this team could definitely be 6-0.

Wtf does this even mean?

I don't think anyone is okay with the status quo scenario. We're in almost unanimous agreement that they need to upgrade Holden's spot. I personally want someone there and someone to knock Staal down to 3LD.

The forwards are taking the puck out of the defensive zone themselves more than normal. They seem to be aware there's a solid chance the defense won't be able to make an outlet pass and thus resulting in the D being pinned in their own zone

Some people (both on twitter and here) are saying the team is fine. Sure the team is fine now, it won't be though. People were saying last season the team was fine when they got off to the hot start, and look how that ended up

Last year's team was carried by Hank to a hot start. Right now, they're producing among the best advanced stats in the league. Much more sustainable than last year. The forwards are just better, and McD has gone into beast mode. Simple as that.

Quietly good? He was great again and almost had another couple goals.
