There really should be a separate award for best offensive and best overall defenseman. There should be an Art Ross like award for the Subbans and Karlssons of the league, and another for best overall defenseman in both zones. If McDonagh doesn't get Norris votes the award is a joke. Keith, McD, and Suter should be the real Norris finalists. The award has turned into who can score the most points as a defenseman.

Ryan McDonagh should fire his agent. That contract is a thing of beauty for us. Not for him. But I'm not complaining.

When it was signed, there were some (not many, mind you, but definitely some) that thought it was an overpayment

I'd throw Doughty and Weber in there. Might actually have them above Keith and McDonagh.

I dont remember any rangers fans thinking that. I remember Isles fans talking **** about him because they thought Hamonic was better than McD (:biglaugh:) and signed cheaper and JT is signed for like 5 million a year or something.

Three things---Just got home from the game, ceremony sucked, but that's cool

1) I'm Brad Richards' harshest critic, but he played a very good game in a time of need.

2) Rick Nash is playing great D.

3) When will I begin to expect this kind of stuff from McD rather then being impressed by it.

Oh, yeah- not really Rangers fans, but a bunch of Islanders fans and a group of random people who said things like McDonagh must have nudes of Sather.

I dedicate this win to Boar's Head Picante Style Provolone.

I know I can do this cheese some justice. Thanks for tip.

nope. i was hoping he would take over for JD when he left. i also like Darren Pang too. Bill Clement is another one i dont mind same for Keith Jones... and i do like Daryl Reaugh a lot. reminds me of those NHL 90 videogames  and i do like those guys who does the Sharks broadcast.

i cant stand Chico Rech, Milbury, McGuire, Goring and that annoying guy for the Sabres.

I like Doc. I make fun of him, but he calls the game like very few other announcers.

McGuire I just rip on all game. Thank god he's just a between the glass guy... can you imagine him calling a game?

They were great. People forget that they were basically our most consistent line for a long time up until Dorsett got injured.

They work very well as a three man unit.

yes they do. This is a very consistent 4th line. I noticed something watching the bruins after the Ranger game. They have 4 lines that can all attack in certain ways. Pierre (don't fall over) actually said something good in the beginning of the game, quoting scotty bowman saying "your 4th line can be your 1st and vice versa".... Secondary scoring is the way to go if you can't stack up your top 6, which everyone knows is nearly impossible without tanking.

Was reading the Devils board the other day. They don't feel they have a chance. And I'm talking about next year too.

They should feel that way. I said this in a thread yesterday... their top 3 players (Brodeur, Jagr, Elias, missed Elias last time I brought it up) combine for a total of 120 years old...

the former 2 of the 3 are retiring at the end of the season... which means, they'll be running with Henrique, a 20 goal scorer, as their leading scorer, + Zidlicky/Zajac as their top assist guys... Michael Ryder and Ryane Clowe, their remaing offensive threats, are no more than 15 goal guys...

Shall we bring up their horrendous D corps? Marty has surprisingly been bailing them out, keeping them in games they have zero business playing in, and every fan knows it.

Lastly, there's Cory Schneider in the net... Don't think I've ever seen him stop a shootout goal this year. Would you trust him as your starter? I sure as hell would not

And suddenly, Pete Deboer looks like a real jackass, because now he has no players. worse off, Lou thought he could make it this year, and therefore didn't unload the guys that had value left to get some useful assets for the farm.

You have to wonder if new ownership has him on the chopping block after this season.

I think Jagr will play next season (though who knows where). I mean, what else is he going to do, get fat?

So Rangers plan, take out opposing starting goal-tender and score against their back-up. Great plan and it worked!

Oh, also wanted to say that Kevin Kelin and Dan Girardi were absolute money tonight...

Klein, once again, saved a goal, on his own during that short 3-on-1 that PHX came up with during the 2nd period. I can't find the highlight, but not only did he kill the pace of the odd man rush, but he busted his ass, got back into the play, and paralyzed the shot of the rushing offenseman in the slot... holy crap... This guy is money.

Girardi is STILL showing that he is legitimate #1 defenseman, and we've locked this guy up for a good while. I am stoked to have our D corps that we do have.

Lastly, Hank played like a super star. He robbed Vermette of that potential 3rd goal in the 1st period, and after that was on his game all night

That ceremony was nice, but a little silly timing just seconds before the puck drops. Hank lost focus for a while, but we won anyway :)

He really didn't... He made some stellar saves throughout the first.

The first goal was deflected off McD's stick over his glove.

The second goal was due to ZERO D coverage in the slot

related but not: it bother anyone else when other teams call us "rags" and we're not even in the same conference?

I'm really annoyed with Brassard on that whole sequence.

He first ****s up by overplaying the puck in the neutral zone (near our blue line) instead of passing it back to the defenseman. Coyotes get the puck and get into our zone.

Then Brassard ****s up by going into the corner, instead of covering the slot. He should've let MSL go into the corner (as Jonathan pointed out).

He made two major **** ups that play, those things just can't happen. Really makes you appreciate Stepan's defensive play.

Fan base of the Debs want him gone, for the most part. They should recognize he's getting the most out of a crappy team. They also have nothing coming up in forwards through their system, and they are hardly a prime free agent destination (only got Kovalchuk by paying him an astronomical sum, which killed the team when he bolted). People here kill Sather, and I admit I'm not his biggest fan, but I think the MDZ trade is lop-sided in favor of the Rangers (MDZ has already been benched in Nashville, I just don't think he'll ever truly develop), not to mention the MCD fleecing of Montreal. He also has Girardi, McD and Klein on very reasonable contracts that will allow him to go out and get some top-flite FA's.

What a game! I was at the game and as someone who has been to a bunch of GREAT games (if I may say so myself) that was one of the best. The guy in front of me was giving me good ribbing for bringing my HF negativity to the game. So glad to see the win and the ceremony and get a free poster to boot!

One question, IMO this was McD's best offensive game of his career, but did anyone think he started off a bit shaky defensively? I was a bit worried in the first period. Not bashing him, more shocked as I am every time he's not perfect defensively. Do you guys think the first goal was a mistake by McDonagh? It's just morbid curiosity as it's now a blip on the radar screen. It looked like he might have stumbled. I'm just confused from a tactical standpoint why he gave OEL so much room.

Fans of teams that we have rivalries with use it as an insult. Most fans of teams that we're neutral with do it because its the internet and its shorter than Rangers. It's like Pens, Caps, Devs, etc. Its not always meant as an insult. It's just unfortunate that Rags has negative connotations.

NEW YORK – It was gut-check time for the Rangers.

After twenty minutes, they trailed 2-0 following a subpar opening period. But at this time of the season, with teams scratching and clawing for every point they can get, the mental side of the house must be just as in order as the physical side.

Perhaps in November, the team closes up shop, doesn’t take the extra energy to battle back and force the action. But this isn’t November, it’s March. This isn’t the 10th game of the season, it’s the 73rd.

If you missed the interview earlier, make sure you listen to Henrik Lundqvist's audio. The guy really is one of the best representatives the franchise -- and the league -- has ever had. Really nice comments about the ceremony.

Spot on Snowblind, at least imo.

I'm not quite sure why McD gave OEL so much room, but it was certainly way too much room that allowed OEL (a fantastic skater in his own right) to skate by and get a shot off. I think McD just misread the play.

I'll look at some highlights, see if he actually stumbled.

Offensively, the guy is absolutely dynamite. He is SOOOO good at handling the puck and creating lanes to shoot to (he can stick handle really well in tight spots). His skating affords him SO many opportunities and allows him to take a lot more risks than most players, he'll rarely get burned.

Honestly, he just needs to keep doing what he is doing. His shot could be slightly more accurate (I remember a chance where he was like 10ft out right in front of the net, where I thought he should've scored. Not sure if it was deflected or not), slightly stronger.

He has a very good outlet pass. I think he needs to become slightly more creative and connecting on higher risk passes.

But these are all things that he has been doing and improving on, I have no doubt he will keep improving every facet of his game.

Edit: Replays don't afford a good angle. I think OEL sneaked up on him on his left side and he misread the play.
