It is my counter to Oiler fans belittling the franchise as if they have been a model franchise the last 15 years or so...despite winning 4 lotteries (which caused a rule change so no other franchise will be able to benefit) and getting a generational player and having the city build them an arena.
Yea I forget when the oilers had visiting teams locker rooms in half ass gym settings like the Coyotes. Lol oiler fans literally supported the team regardless of where they were in the standings something coyote fans know nothing about. The Coyotes could have mcdavid and theyd still be playing in front of 5 thousand fans at most.

For the 1 millionth time...

You do realize we don't have the lowest attendance in the NHL over the past decade...right?

It's highly likely that Arizona has been inflating their attendance numbers, especially considering the owner said the team wouldn't lose any more money playing in a 5000 seat arena, which is almost a third of their 'normal attendance' of 13K+.

OR, could it be possible that we were getting highly screwed in fees from Gila Arena, who admitted that they made more money through event and concerts, and that's why the team will make more money with this short term arrangement?

That just suggests they were selling tickets too cheap or giving them away for free.

Losing ~70% of tickets and selling cheap student tickets with less concessions gets you more money?

They're already offering discount tickets to ASU students.

The arena might have a novelty feel for the first few games because it's new... but there's not much demand for a rebuilding Arizona team in a college stadium. If there was demand, they wouldn't be at ASU

Unless the tickets are 4X the price, it's a loss.

Where else would they be playing exactly?

It actually looks like a decent rink to watch a game as a fan. The locker room situation and some of the other stuff is kind of a shame though. Hopefully those who attend have a good time.

Yeah - I looked and it does appear Edmonton is roughly the 3rd-4th more attended team in Canada.

I always look at capacity otherwise you might have inflated numbers and Montreal will always be the team at the top, when Vegas is actually there in terms of capacity.

Ticket prices when they were in Glendale were roughly $30 bucks to get into the stadium, which IS low, but also not absurd with some of the prices you'll see in the States for hockey.

My only point is, why bash on a team that is TRYING to right the ship? What the hell do you want us to do? We are trying, we are frustrated but we are trying.

The NHL is better if the Yotes get their own arena and get back on track, no doubt about it, so why belittle us?
I wasn’t necessarily trying to bash the Yotes, it was more a fired up response to ducky because I feel that particular poster has a history with Oil fans. But I think you’d have to admit the Yotes have had a longer leash than most teams when it comes to their failures as a franchise and repeated opportunities from the league to correct matters. The poster ducky was trying to make it seem like the Oil and the Yotes were similar situations in their down years, when really the only comparable was poor records. The Oil still had good gate revenue and tried to spend to the cap, they were just completely mismanaged (which is actually sadder in some regards).

As for the current version of the Yotes, I actually agree with their approach of weaponizing cap space to gain assets and ice an ugly team (on paper). I think this could be the year they finally land that 1st overall and get a franchise player in Bedard.

But with that said, I still stand by my previous point - how would you feel if you are Seattle or Vegas and had to pay $550-600 mil up front, have a facility that meets all of the league’s expectations, all while watching a meandering franchise that would have cost 1/2 the expansion fee to acquire continue to spiral downward in terms of viability and credibility…. and stay afloat partially as a result of expansion fees filling their pocket. I’d be a bit choked.

If they can bounce back and succeed in Zona, I’ll gladly eat my words, but I don’t have a good feeling about that.

Does the NHLPA do nothing?

There's nothing they can do - don't forget, the PA still represents the Coyotes players, who want to play on something resembling home ice.

Think people have whined enough about the topic - glad to see the ASU / Coyotes fans, and players, are having a lot of fun with it. It's going to be a pretty unique destination to play hockey this year. Cole Perfetti just did an interview with TSN talking about how much fun it is playing there, and he gave high praise to the ice conditions too

Where did I say anything about attendance or compare arenas? I think Oiler fans should just be uber thankful they have been blessed with the best player in the world and worry less about slagging another team in a bad situation.

Players may or may not like the feel and the ice and whatnot but I'd be wary of trusting it. I'm fairly certain they'll have gotten directives not to act like dicks about it.
