Update: OEL was put on IR. Minimum 7 days.
Saves AZ roughly $500K in cap space at a minimum less any roster additions. Drops us up to 7 spots in the league in terms of overall cap space. Important if we are likely going to be eating cap at deadline with some trades.

I haven’t liked Demers start so silver lining is this helps him get his shit together.

Chychrun Goose
Oesterle Demers
Capo Hammer

Something like that. Hammer can hold Capo’s hand to start.

Don’t think they’re looking at that as much with this condensed schedule they can’t afford to rush players back into the lineup. Especially this early on.

But yeah... if he goes much longer they may need to make a trade somewhere

What? U mean we shouldn’t trade Raanta for a 5th or 6th round pick? Shocking!!!!!!
I'm one of Raanta's biggest boosters, but at the time we were significantly over the cap, and noone really thought we'd get a second for Stepan before the deadline. I still would have traded the injury-prone $4.25M backup for whatever we could get and rely on Darcy, Hill, and a bandaid. :dunno:
Now we have a full roster and spare cap space and hence some leverage again. So it'd make sense to ask for value back.

Best trade Armstrong will make this year is the Stepan and his cap hit for Brassard (FA signing) and a 2nd. Sets us up nicely for deadline to get creative.

Im more referencing our ability to eat cap hits on players we sell off at deadline like Demers, Goligoski, and Raanta.

I hope he proves you wrong with another one! But it was a great move for where we're at.

Clean Hits on Substack
I remember watching the draft with @Grimes and mocking the Oilers for having the two best players in the world and having missed the playoffs, and seemingly being a-okay to miss them again so long as they don't have to trade such a precious asset as a 1st rounder for an absolutely elite, world-class goalie like Darcy Kuemper. Who needs the playoffs when you have Dylan Halloway? LOL. I don't know if Kuemper was available or if he was offered to Edmonton for their 1st. But I do remember the smug, stupid fans scoffing at the idea of moving their 1st for Kuemper. How does Holloway look now? Now that they appear to be pissing away yet ANOTHER year of the McDrai era? They don't deserve either player, let alone both. Losers.

It's unfortunate that it couldn't have been sooner, before most of the free agents we're signed. GMBA still has to try and trade the D-rentals.

They miss the playoffs again and McDavid is asking out. How many years have they had the same organizational weakness with bandaid solutions?

I think McDavid gives it one more year. I think Eichel is done in buffalo though.

RABBIT

AKA Turd Ferguson
I have loved Garland’s, Dvorak’s, Chychrun’s, and Keller’s games’ so far. Promising sign for our core.

Our vets look more inspired. Kessel looks to be going wherever he can to score, which is good. OEL still never shoots a slap shot but his 3 assists look promising. Goalies look decent.

Shoutout to Brassard, he could have like 4 goals but has just been unlucky. Pitlick and Larsson look like solid pickups and while Caggiula has been quiet, he plays with pace.

Seems to me if you’re going to have Dave Tippett as coach, you should bring it some guys who can play Dave Tippett Hockey.

I’d say take a shot every time you heard McConnell say Garland’s name but you’d probably be dead. He’s buzzing all over the place.

Also love Chychrun’s willingness to shoot the puck, and he seems to be able to really hammer it now too. Just have to contain it a little more. Don’t want to be the next Michael Stone and have a shot that can’t hit the net.

Cag's is like Vinnie with an edge at his best. He's bringing energy, but doesn't look like himself. Given his concussion history after last year, it's sad, but understandable. I wouldn't be opposed to sitting him vs Vegas and bringing Hayden in. Move Crouse up in the lineup to fill his spot.

I think buffalo is f***ed in that division
Yup, I thought signing Hall would get them into playoff contention but not with these divisions.

If they were in the central I think they could fight for 2nd. More likely 3 or 4 though. I think Eichel will give it one more season when things get back to normal. Which could be great for us with having a 1st again.

I think Cag is playing a little too high up in the lineup. Less is more.
