I respect your opinion here as I understand that his play has been underwhelming."Overbake" is fine for most prospects, but high end prospects don't need or shouldn't need to be "baked". The way it sounds, Hayton had no business being picked that high, so our expectations of him will have to be adjusted, and BA himself said Soderstrom will have a chance to make our team. I hope both come to training camp and make a big impact.
Where’s this stuff with BA saying the budget will increase, ect.?
Q: The team spent roughly $65 million in player salaries this past season. Do you expect that number to grow?
A: I do see it going up.
I wonder if BA means cap space?
Morgan already speculated in a previous article that might go up a few million but not much more. We shall see.
I was thinking cap. We are at about 51 mill. as we speak. I think our budget might be around 71 mill, but I could be wrong but I sure don't see up spending up to the cap. Say we have 20 mill. to spend with needing to sign 4 dman who are better than the ones we lose to UFA this year, plus signing Garland, maybe Bunting, our budget is shot, unless our budget is higher or we move Kessel after his bonus is paid and he ok's a deal. Interesting times.
We either rip the house down, or we build up our core. I don't personally think that our core is good enough. He's 22.
We aren’t doing this again. We are rebuilding, yes? No? In a rebuild, why wouldn't we expose Keller? He's untradeable with that contract and if Seattle takes him they do us a favor by freeing a lot of cap space.
I can't speak for the rest but Hyman will not be cheap. I think he will get a contract he can't live up to and won't age well.Whatever we do, I hope it includes bigger, stronger D that can pass well and bigger, stronger forwards that can shoot well. None of these guys need to be fast, just adequate. Goodrow, Coleman, Oleksiak, Johns, Forbort, Hakanpaa, Poolman, Janmark, Kuraly, Saad, Tatar, and Hyman are all players I have a lot of interest in. Most of them bring a strong physical element and none of them will break the bank.
I like Hyman but he's 29 and has missed considerable time for the last couple seasons. It's highly unlikely he plays to his contract for next few years. And when that contract is for 5 years at $5 million plus its an easy no for me.I’ve seen 5+ mil floated for Hyman. No thanks.

I don't think they're that far from the playoffs but I think they are far AF from being a contender in said playoffs. The Coyotes are to the NHL playoffs what Glass Joe is to Mike Tyson's Punch Out on NES.I really don't think our team is that far from the playoffs. This season will be a transition year. New coach. Lots of turnover. We won't fill all the holes on the team.
But the following offseason, Kessel is off the books. Full crowds, new TV deal should mean a larger budget. (Maybe close to the cap?) We'll be able to be active in free agency for two years.
Toughen up the bottom 6. Young players will continue to develop. Soderstrom, Hayton, Jenik, Macceli on the way. In 2 years I think we should be a playoff team. 3 years make some noise in the playoffs.
To take the leap to Cup contender we'll need a couple big trades, like STL made with ROR and Schenn, and solid goaltender. If the young players develop and BA lives up to his drafting pedigree we should have assets to make a big trade.
"Glass Joe" Solid throwback comparrison.I don't think they're that far from the playoffs but I think they are far AF from being a contender in said playoffs. The Coyotes are to the NHL playoffs what Glass Joe is to Mike Tyson's Punch Out on NES.

Definitely need a couple big moves down the road to get there but I think we have a roster that can be worked with to get there without starting anew.I don't think they're that far from the playoffs but I think they are far AF from being a contender in said playoffs. Let's see what BA pulls out of his hat. It starts with a coach.Definitely need a couple big moves down the road to get there but I think we have a roster that can be worked with to get there without starting anew.
I think we're set up in place to get where STL was prior to the ROR and Schenn trades.
This is similar to how I feel about this Yotes roster. Love some of the core pieces… but need some trades and player development to pan out…. As does every Cup contending teamI really don't think our team is that far from the playoffs. This season will be a transition year. New coach. Lots of turnover.
