Couturier head shots Dach. Couturier drops the gloves with Xhekaj. Seeler comes in as a 3rd fighter. Xhekaj gets the penalty...?

because the never actually engaged in a fight I can see not getting third man in.
but should have been at least offsetting.

I did like couturier there. Drops his glove. Looks at the ref. Ref doesn’t step in. Shakes his head and squares up.

He was going to try it. Good for him.
Couturier literally punched Xhekaj in the head before Seeler jumped in.

When does that happen? I only see Couturier grabbing for his jersey.

As for the instigator, Xhekaj tosses his stick away. It's pretty clear what his intentions were.

Like I said there should've been more offsetting penalties but this doesn't look like some great miscarriage of justice.

I don’t see any fight thus no third man, see no head shot. I would say both teams should have gotten 2 mins offsetting pens. So it’s a missed two min call in a game, how many times does that happen in every single game.

This reminds me of Stevie Downie squaring off against Ovechkin back in the day, then Matt Bradley came in at the last moment to take the fight himself.

But in this case, no real fight occured. Seeler was being a good teammate, not letting his captain get beaten down by a true beast in Xhekaj.

At this point it seems confirmed Xhekaj is a bottom pairing dime a dozen player, nobody needs to fight him unless it’s egregious

why are people saying the fight hasn't started. coots throws a right and seelers attack from the xhekajs blindside after xhekaj had already dropped the gloves and squared up with coots. should have been called.
You could call it that way , but then you end up with:

Couturier 5 for fighting
Seeler - game misconduct 3rd man in

Xhekaj - 2 for instigation (based on what was actually called on the ice) , 5 for fighting and ten minute misconduct for the instigator.

Seems like overkill to me, and the on ice manpower is the same result.

This place is f***ing ridiculous sometimes. 100+ posts because of a missed minor penalty. I'd have called offsetting minors personally as I feel like Seeler was trying to stop the fight to save Couts.

Also with Xhekaj getting an unsportsmanlike penalty, it could have been for a number of things, including mouthing off to an official, so there is a chance they decided not to call anything on this incident and then gave him 2 for something else, or for something that happened before this video.

I'm not saying the call was right, just saying this is weird, so maybe this very short clip doesn't show everything, especially with the one penalty being unsportsmanlike, not roughing.

I honestly don't understand the instigator penalty anymore.

The other day, after Trouba's hit on Barron, Matheson went to talk to Trouba. Trouba instantly dropped the gloves so Matheson had no choice but to fight this bigger opponent. But it’s actually Matheson who got the instigator penalty.

Tonight, same thing. Xhekaj went to talk to Couturier. Couturier drops his gloves first and start punching. Then Seeler comes in from behind and gets involved to. But for mysterious reasons, only Xhekaj gets penalized.

The instigator penalty is supposed to prevent a player from jumping another. Now they penalize the player who "talks" first, but not the one who starts the fight. So what's the point exactly? What are they trying to prevent by doing this??

Well....that's one way to look at it.

The officiating standards around these situations are just ridiculous sometimes. I’m not saying guys need to get tossed for every little shove, but when someone throws a gloved punch or drops the gloves, he should go to the box with a minor. Not even as an anti-fighting measure, but just to maintain some sanity in the way the game is called. We can have fighting and still not have scenarios where two guys beat each other over the head the ref’s like “I’ll allow it”.

Ironic that Xhekaj has made a name for himself by jumping people from behind and then got jumped from behind by Seeler and folded like a lawn chair

The main boards never ceases to amaze me lol

Couturier: drops his gloves first and throws the first punch

Main boards: OMG Xhekaj is such a goon can't wait until he's suspended for good

IDGAF about Xhekaj one way or the other (must be doing a good job though if the main boards are this THIS riled up about a bottom pairing defenceman) but the mental gymnastics around here are amazing sometimes
