Now my second daughter has it...of course coming down with symptoms IMMEDIATELY after a visit with her 85 year old grandparents. And this is what a little over a month after her 2nd dose.

I kind of want to just get my breakthrough infection over with now rather than further away in timeline from the booster, tbh.
Lol it’s not called a breakthrough infection anymore.

I smell omikron. Hope everyone will be alright.

Thanks. It's not anything more than a cold symptom wise. Glad to get it over with finally, quite frankly.

Sorry to hear that! I liked your post momentarily when I at first thought "it" meant the vaccine, and not COVID. I hope you feel better soon. Mine was crap for a while, worse than a normal sickness, but not bad enough to go to a hospital for sure. I hope you feel better and get lots of rest.

It was just my first thought for one second. I thought it was funny that I essentially "liked" your comment where you said you got COVID, only to realize how horrible that was.

But if you were a true patriot you would have invented a time machine to get your vaccine earlier.

I also like messages *because* you've shared, not necessarily that I like *what* you've shared.

I find it interesting how slowly COVID is moving through my family. Even though all 4 of us have been holed up together for a week, only one has tested positive...though my wife tested "inconclusive" yesterday after having symptoms on Sunday (they're gone now). It seems that testing has some serious drawbacks and has me wondering if maybe we're testing the wrong thing. I hear that they can tell a surge is coming by way of how much virus is detected in wastewater. Perhaps we should be peeing on a stick ala a pregnancy test...?

For those that have had Covid, have any of you had any long term side effects?

My nephew had it over a year ago and said his sense of smell is still affected. For instance, the aroma of certain foods cooking (like chicken) smells really bad to him and makes him nauseous. My wife and I met a young woman today, early 30s that had it over a year ago and she said she can't smell much at all now. She said curiously, that for really bad smells, she smell nothing at all but for some things, she can tell there's an aroma, but isn't able to distinguish what it is. She said her husband tries to have her take care of any "accidents" her young children may have since she can't smell it now.

Just curious what side effects people might be having.

I had it a month ago and the symptoms lasted around 2 weeks, then last week I got food poisoning and felt terrible for a few days, and now this week I got a sore throat/stuffy nose/chills again (like a lesser version of what I had during Covid last month). I think now it's vaguely dehydration related but I'm now fully hydrated and my symptoms are still present. I have no idea if this is Covid-related or I'm just having a rough month.

I’ve had it twice (both extremely mild) and no side effects.

Had it the end of 2020 start of last year. The worst symptoms (pain, chills, feeling drained) were gone in less than 36 hours. Was congested with loss of taste and smell for about 2 weeks. After that back to normal.

A fiend of mine caught it in October 2020. Her sense of taste and smell are still knocked a bit out of alignment. She says they most red meat just tastes bloody/metallic and eating candy is like putting chemicals in her mouth.

I had it, very mild case, worst side effect I had was losing my sense of smell for about a month. Oddly it seems to have changed my taste in beer after I recovered from it, some stuff that I liked previously I won't touch now, it just doesn't taste right to me. Considering I was a brewer for a while, that would be classified as a problem. That's not to say it tastes bad, just not like it used to.

Whoa. I had something really similar. I had it for about a week with chest congestion and a cough. Fairly mild and I kicked it, then a week later I was hugging the toilet for 24 hrs with what I thought was either norovirus or food poisoning. That was a couple of weeks ago but I still get twinges of nausea occasionally which is not something that happens to me along with some chills/stuffy nose at times.

@Boom Boom Apathy to answer your question more than what I just said I’ve noticed a lack of lung capacity skiing and playing hockey. I’m definitely fatigued quicker. Felt great on the mountain a couple of days ago but found myself taking frequent breaks out of necessity.

Weiiiird. Until this week I was 99% confident it was just unrelated food poisoning and the ensuing dehydration that came from throwing up a million times. Now I’m just annoyed at myself for being a weakling who seems to be sick all the time. Perhaps I owe my mother-in-law an apology as she bought the tamales I’ve been blaming.

Had it a few weeks ago and I'm still feeling residual sinus pressure. Outside of that, pretty much back to normal.

I would of course never question anyone’s experience with Covid … but I specifically recall reading an article about a year ago which talked about the Covid “brain fog” phenomenon and how so many people were experiencing it.

There was a study done, and one of the funny things that came out of it (funny to me, anyway) was, there were a large % of people who were saying they were experiencing Covid brain fog … and they hadn’t had Covid. Both symptom free and antibody-free.

i still get a laugh out of it.

Brain fog was a common symptom in our society far before Covid.

(I did experience “brain fog” simultaneous with my flu-like symptoms, but couldn’t really tell you if that lack of focus was actually a symptom in and of itself or it was just a consequence of feeling like shit because of all the other symptoms. I know it’s a very common thing people bring up, but it also doesn’t surprise me that having a big ol’ headache, sinus congestion, a crappy cough, a super sore throat, and full body aches and chills would also result in not being at your cognitive best. I’m not sure if that’s called “brain fog” or just “part of being real sick.” But yeah, I did have it.)
