Pretty sure immunosuppressants could essentially kill an otherwise healthy person with COVID19
This would only be for a specific high risk group of patients where there *might* be a benefit to outweigh the cost. Doubtful, but just a thought.

There are different categories and doses. I'm not saying to dump the system and hope for the best but to see if a balance with a light dose that doesn't impede the immune system completely, just enough to prevent the cascade from spiraling out of control. Plenty of examples in medicine where something works as you don't expect it, or even works in the complete opposite way of how you expect it.

Anti-inflammatories might be the better idea here because of what you said though.

I have something called ankylosing spondylitis (it's like rheumatoid arthritis) so I have constant inflammation throughout my body. My doctor has told me under absolutely no circumstance am I to take my medication--Humira--which is an immunosuppressant. I just have to stick with Aleve until things are "safe".
I'm familiar with it, sorry to hear! Good luck, hopefully the pain and stiffness isn't too much to bear.

You guys probably need to step away from the computer screen. I'm so tightly wound right now. I got worried because I felt a slight shortness of breath so decided to stay home. Anyway, I called my boss on my cell phone and it's in my mom's name. Galina. He picks up "yes. Galina". I can't remember the last time I laughed this hard. Maybe we need to step away from the news. Life is about so much more than paranoia over this virus.

lol you need to step away, we're all fine in our foil hats thanks.

100x is a bit much, 50x isn't out of the question though in my opinion. Kids are basically silent carriers and are completely un-diagnosed, I'm sure the great majority of 40 and unders ride it out without being diagnosed too.
As far as I know, epidemiologists are operating with up to 20 times higher numbers of actual cases as opposed to the confirmed ones. Which would mean a death rate of 0.2 %. Which is still one order of magnitude higher than swine flu. And it would also mean 2 to 3 million infected people worlwide already.

Thanks, I've had if for ~20 years, I've learned to cope. Honestly the Aleve works great, and if it weren't for my kidneys I'd just take that forever.

FYI mortality rate in South Korea is 0.77% likely due to better testing there.

2,718 cases recorded so the data is pretty decent

Coronavirus death rates in South Korea reinforce a frightening pattern of how the disease affects older people

Yep, when it's all said and done, I would expect the mortality rate in the US to be a little bit higher for several reasons. One of them being the obesity factor. We are the most obese country in the world and on an order of 10 times more than South Korea.

True. But we have fewer smokers which *should* help (17% versus 27%). Also we're not testing everyone with symptoms which SK is, so our numbers would be artificially somewhat inflated

I’ve got ulcerative colitis...wonder how autoimmune diseases which cause systemic inflammation will be affected by this virus...luckily since I went vegan my u.c. Has been in remission..but it’s still worrisome.
