I’ve now had 3 clients die of Covid-19, I talked to one of the wives over the phone, who was crying, saying they couldn’t even say goodbye, he died alone. It really took a lot out of me, and right now I still see people being ignorant to what’s going on, and that relates to everything we are seeing, not just Covid. If we don’t come together to fight this thing, the other shit won’t really matter and don’t get me wrong, that is critical also.

Im sorry to hear that. Losing a family member and not being able to say goodbye is awful. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Unfortunately it has happened a lot lately.

I wish the young and ignorant people who don’t want to take precaution could see that. Lol, I say young, I’m only in my mid 30’s and have to say young people. Man, I feel so old. Lol.

9-11 was the country being attacked by outside actors....that's a big difference to what's been going on recently.

We got attacked by outside actors. One was clearly visible, now this one is invisible. But leave it to our leaders to turn an invisible enemy, political. Sure 9-11 had its politics but not like Covid-19. What’s going on in Florida now makes me sick, with how careless people have been down there.

Well, at least your government doesn't treat the virus as a no issue like mine. It can always be worse

Back at the ranch, we just had a guy on the bus with no mask talking loudly.

I shot him a nasty glare and he put this shirt over his face.

I have a naturally happy face (think he opposite of resting bitch face) so I can finally lay down the law with my mask on.

There's an unintentional benefit!

The NHL wanting no part of games in the USA has to be quite a telling factor as far as how we've handled this.
Canada without a doubt is the safer route right now and no reason not to hold the games there. Edmonton and Toronto I’m sure will be able to handle the players and accommodations well enough. That being said if canadian cites weren’t an option I’m sure the NHL would have still found two hub cities in the US.

This blog by an immunologist was a really handy read:

https://www.erinbromage.com/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them

It echoes a lot of the sentiments that have been hopping around. That is, the virus is containable but there's a few really bad activities that are time bombs: indoor large gatherings, church, bars, meat plants, and anywhere where people are singing. In municipalities where the virus is contained, new flare-ups are being traced almost exclusively to these places.

Talking (and/or singing -- singing is worse) is the biggest culprit of respiratory spread. Interestingly, despite the fear over elevators, there hasn't been any evidence at all that they're a conduit. That's because you mostly mind your own business on the elevator. Rather, outbreaks at work are being traced back to floors (i.e. the 11th floor of Joe Schmo and Associates) where people socialize and talk to each other.

Bars are major issue. I mean, the world won't end if kids miss a year of school, and I'm sorry to say if you're religious, but honestly, you're not going to die if you put off church. Bars are largely personal businesses that can't afford a year on the shelf. At the same time, they're absolute petri dishes, so I'm not sure what should be done about them.
FYI American Academy of Pediatrics said evidence points to very minimal spread in schools. Essential Workers daycare which has remained open, as well as schools in areas that reopened were not hot bedss of transmission and they recommend schools reopen with extra safety precautions to minimize the risk even further. Unlike the flu, children are not a strong source of spread at all. Kids seem to get it less, and when they do get it are pretty asymptomatic, which means they’re mostly dead ends of spread. It’s the young adult-middle aged morons who are socializing close distance with no mask who seem to really spread it.

This is good to know

My point is that they have handled this much better than we have in the US and as such it is a no brainer to hold the games there

How are things in Florida by you? I just talked to my cousin in Tampa, and said things seem to be really heating up, and he didn’t mean the weather.

great - have a friend who swore the whole Covid was hype and not based on facts. I do wish he was right.

People are smartening up. As recently as 2-weeks ago masks were getting more and more rare... restaurants open to 100% etc.

Now it's actually rare to see someone in a store, gas station etc. without one. Although they are now MANDATORY in my county. If Desantis made it statewide I think we'd be much better off. (Hopefully that's not a political statement, I just feel it's true).

I have been back at work for about a month now but the plan in place has worked quite well and we still do not have any cases... we rotate shifts (I'm 4 days on, 3 off) with a crew that has largely remained the same, this is for contact tracing reasons. After my shift is over, the facility is thoroughly sanitized... then the 3 day folks come in. We wear masks, temp checked daily etc.

My last concert was TOOL in Austin, TX... 4th row w my fiancee... so that'll be a great memory if I never get to another show.

My last hockey game was NYR beating the Canes on Dec 27th the night we got engaged. Ahh memories

Yeah They should make the masks mandatory state-wide. Governor said he doesn’t want to go back on re-openings. I Believe Disney is still on plan to open next week. That is crazy. If they cannot get past the apex by aug, that’s not good. Have the entire summer to get this under control, or the school year will also be effected down there.

My last Hockey game was on 3/11 in Anaheim at a Ducks game, right before everything went to shit. It was actually that make up game against St. Louis. I was staying over in Disney over there, and word got out, that they were closing everything Friday night, I left on Friday morning. My plane was only 60% full. Crazy times. Lol.

Your glare can be really nasty, man. We've witnessed it here and take caution every time.

I swore that I would never post in this thread ever again. But am breaking my promise.

This thing.....it had brought out the worst in us. We are all screaming at each other for various things. Even on this board. Some fans thought that those who were their “allies” have become foes. And those who thought were their “foes” have become allies.

I think....think....that we all should remember that it is because of our differences, we are a better people. That
Is what unites us. Our differences do not make us weaker. They make us better.

Our viewpoints are not inherently right nor wrong. They are just different.

To wit, on this 4th of July, I suggest they all listen to Jimi Hendrix version of Star Spangled Banner. Perfect? No. No way. Filed with ups, downs and various imperfections. But isn’t that what represents us as Americans?

We are the worst country of all, my fellow Rangers fans. Except for all the others. Let us remember on this day, that it is our disagreements that make is who we are. Our differences as a country founded by immigrants. And maybe we can all recall, what that it disagreement that forged our
Constitution. And it is the ability to disagree and build off our disagreements that will continue to make this country what it is.

All politics and frustrations aside, I miss the hell out of New York City. I lived in Queens for 20 years and over that time, I dont think I spent more than 5-7 concurrent days outside of NYC. 2 years ago my family and I moved to Long Island - sure the commute is a drag but at least I still got to travel into my beloved city 4-5 days a week. Now its about 4 months and counting since I made the journey west into the city. I miss the action, the buzz, the innate ability to navigate thousands of people on the street like its nothing that only a long-time NY'er can achieve.

And, unfortunately, as someone who has been able to do my job just as well sitting in a 12x12 room in my house all day thanks to video conferencing capabilities -- Im left here wondering if the city will ever be the same after this.

Honestly I think if there's a vaccine things will go back to normal with the exception that you'll see more people wearing masks when they get sick (though probably not a ton) and more people working from home.

That said, I think this is something that pretty much changes our country and the world to some extent

I invited my friends to my place for my birthday (late July). I'm inviting 4/5 people total. It would be buffet style food, so as sanitary as possible. Anyway, they refused due to Covid. Are they being smart or are they going overboard? It's their right and I respect their decision but it seems like in NYC right now this is not some crazy idea on my part.

theyre being smart. NO sleight meant at you, especially since this is the first time a lot of people are experiencing anything related to this, but don't put people in the position where they have to pick between doing the right thing and you.

I'm really not sure how I'm putting them in some difficult position. I asked him if he'd be ok with it and he said no, I said ok. Not like I was giving him a hard time about it.
