Im worried about 3 things at this point, putting aside the completely bungled response from the federal government:

1. Obviously, containing the spread. All Americans need to take this seriously immediately unless you want to be going to a few funerals for parents/grandparents.

2. Im legitimately worried at what a de-facto martial law policy is going to have on NYC. I've been around this city all my life - people don't like being told what to do. They need to listen and be good citizens or things could get real ugly in the streets real fast

3. The economic fallout of this is incalculable at this point. Once earnings #'s start coming in, people are going to start losing their jobs by the hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions.

Im 37 years old with a kid. I look at this people congregating in bars and small spaces and think they're f***ing idiots. That said, 20 year old me probably would've thought much differently.

You should probably worry most about what your fellow citizens will do when they can't get enough toilet paper rather than a new flu that kills the elderly at a slightly higher rate than normal due to states locking everything down and taking their incomes from them. So far the most damage has been done by the world's governments, and I don't think they're done yet.

Slightly higher? That seems a bit optimistic.

If this isn’t a thing, as you seem to be suggesting, why are governments doing this? What’s their motivation/incentive?

hoping this is all true....

China has closed down its last coronavirus hospital. Not enough new cases to support them.
Doctors in India have been successful in treating Coronavirus. Combination of drugs used: Lopinavir, Retonovir, Oseltamivir along with Chlorphenamine. They are going to suggest same medicine, globally.
Researchers of the Erasmus Medical Center claim to have found an antibody against coronavirus.
A 103-year-old Chinese grandmother has made a full recovery from COVID-19 after being treated for 6 days in Wuhan, China.
Apple reopens all 42 china stores,
Cleveland Clinic developed a COVID-19 test that gives results in hours, not days.
Good news from South Korea, where the number of new cases is declining.
Italy is hit hard, experts say, only because they have the oldest population in Europe.
Scientists in Israel likely to announce the development of a coronavirus vaccine.
3 Maryland coronavirus patients fully recovered; able to return to everyday life.
A network of Canadian scientists are making excellent progress in Covid-19 research.
A San Diego biotech company is developing a Covid-19 vaccine in collaboration with Duke University and National University of Singapore.
Tulsa County's first positive COVID-19 case has recovered. This individual has had two negative tests, which is the indicator of recovery.
All 7 patients who were getting treated for at Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi have recovered.
Plasma from newly recovered patients from Covid -19 can treat others infected by Covid-19.
So it's not ALL bad news. Let's care for each other and stay focused on safety of those most vunerable.

Those reports sound reasonable, but nothing we didn’t know a week ago. Vaccine normally takes 12 months from now until they are out. There are plenty of candidates. Nothing will start to be used broadly within months. And — from the time it’s used broadly, vaccine is difficult to produce (“grow”).

There are many anti-virus medicine, like those mention. And others. But it’s the massive amount of sick that is the problem. If you are afraid to die from corona, race out and try to catch it because now you would be in good hands. A months from now it could be harder.

From my POV, a lot comes down to just waiting and seeing how this thing plays out the coming weeks. It’s a flu, you don’t get real bad over night. Especially since it’s a new flu for your immune system, there is a big risk for a mild syndrome to develop into something serious over a couple of weeks. Everyone are obsessing with numbers and confirmed cases right now.

Nobody knows. That is also why the market is so shaky. You can’t predict how a virus will react. Sure you can study China and Italy who was first out. But as I understand it genetics can have a big impact, climate, people’s habits and so forth. 2-3 weeks and we will know more.

No way I am considered essential let's see what happens

You're essential to me.

So, turns out I'm essential.

Only expected to come in twice a week for 3-4 hours each. Not even mad, can get much more work done without coworkers coming up and interrupting me, or all the internal emails, or the phone ringing.

For some social isolation/quarantine time fun, why not watch 2 idiots (safely) get electrocuted as they play Jenga?

EDIT: Be warned, they do get a bit loud

I have a lung condition called sarcoidosis. I usually battle bronchitis every year and I thought I was having another case of that but within a few days I felt like death. I had zero energy, my body hurt all over, a cough that wouldn’t go away, I coughed so much I had headaches all the time..I had a steady fever but I was taking over the counter meds to battle all of this, I also had amoxicillin left over from my last bout which I started taking as well...when I started not being able to breath i went straight into panic mood. They wouldn’t see me, never mind test me. Hospitals are usually frantic and busy but you get quiet stretches... if you’ve ever been in the ER on a Saturday night in the summer in NYC... picture that madness and triple it.
Wow, glad you're okay and it didn't escalate for you. That must be a really scary situation, especially knowing you have the lung condition so you knew you were vulnerable.

The big issue is the healthcare system getting overwhelmed and it's going to lead to a lot of deaths in cases that could've been prevented and not only COVID-19 patients but patients of all types of cases because those don't stop just because of this pandemic.

Vaccines take time because you don't know what they will do until you try them on people. Sure they can confer immunity to a disease but in many cases they turn out to give you the disease itself, a nasty side effect, or even death. But the good news (which is pretty terrible actually) is that the Chinese don't care and they are giving people everything they can come up with until something sticks. When it sticks we will also have the remedy (at their people's expense)

Just a dumb and ignorant take on all levels really. Nothing much more to say.

Do you know what a pandemic is? Do you know what would happen if none of these measures were put into place? Why am I asking...that answer is clearly NO.

I remember a bunch of posters bashing me when I said once the hot weather comes it will help curb it, well now we are getting some proof:

But yeah, that has nothing to do with him. Give me a break with that ignorance.
Ignorance? There's a phone ringing. It's the pot wanting to talk to the kettle.

Do you have any ideas of how the market works or why such a rout is possible? Trump has NOTHING to do with liquidity. You are tying it all in to mom and pop day traders trying to sell their long positions because they listen to his press conferences. No offense, but that is completely assinine and shows an incredible amount of ignorance of how markets work.
But the take that the market has nothing to do with Trump and therefore nothing to do with the policies of the federal government, which another poster tried to imply, is one of the dumbest I've seen in a while.
That is dumb but the idea that Trump's conferences are responsible for the liquidity crunch that is being experienced by most is highly intelligent. Got it. Have you any idea of how much liquidity is responsible for the bond rout?

Oh, and yes, if you have exposure to the British pound, blame Trump as he is responsible for it dropping to a level back of 1982. Also a highly knowledgeable take.

Or, I don't know, if you were long the index, it is also a highly intelligent take that Trump's press conferences are now responsible for you not being able to get out of the position.

sure there could be more but there still is going to be a limit...there only so much space to put the beds and doctors to use the ventilators...could that limit that the system is overwhelmed be higher? sure but there is still going to be a limit where it will be overhwhelmed.

Some more positive thinking for those in search of it. This is a long shot, and a near impossibility, but wouldn’t it be nice if we realized that this thing is essentially an alien invader and we all came together as a species?

These never ending wars are an absurd waste of life, money, and resources. Trade wars and sanctions don’t help anyone.

Let’s fight this thing, and plan for future calamities, as humanity.

The sad thing is, regardless of what side of this argument anyone falls on, it's VERY clear the admin thinks they can sway the markets. a 330pm press conf parade with company CEOS last Friday is a tell tale sign on which side they fall on.
