Finally got to Ted Lasso. Such a wonderful show. Looking forward to season 4 if they go forward with it
I watched Schitt's Creek and The Good Place with my wife and it was some of the most treacly, unfunny tripe I've ever seen. So I have no stomach for Ted Lasso, which looks to be more of the same from what I've seen and heard.

Then again, I've heard Bob's Burgers compared to that show too, and I love it, even though it's very much a comfort viewing show.

Ted Lasso is more of a feel good tv show. I loved Jason Sudeikis in it, and Hannah Waddingham. Its worth the watch. It DOES come off a little corny in the first few episodes but definitely stick with it. Its a deep show and its really not about the comedy. Its about people dealing with hard times.

I liked all 3 of those shows, and thought Ted Lasso was corny even compared to them. After the first episode lost me, my wife watched it on her own because she knew I wasn’t interested.

Similarly, I watched the first season of The Bear with my wife and she tuned out pretty early on. I thought it was OK but I'm also a sucker for shows and movies shot in a claustrophobic style. It's why I liked Shiva Baby more than I should have. Haven't watched past that season, though, and apparently that's for the best.

I do remember seeing a clip of it that was a couple of players talking out their feelings... yeah, I don't think that's a show for me. Frankly, Apple TV+ has a lot of stuff that I'm not interested in. It's like a higher-end Netflix.

Oh yeah. Definitely gotta stick with it haha. Id agree if I just watched the pilot. The show gets very very deep. I didn’t expect it at all after watching the first few episodes so it was a fantastic surprise.

@Satans Hockey
I feel like everyone had a happy ending EXCEPT Ted. Yes, back home with his son, but, still has to deal with his ex and his former therapist being her love interest. Also, Ted is a professional coach. How long before he gets bored coaching youth soccer. He also has no love interest. Give me a Season 4 where Beard Nate and Roy reach out to Ted for him to come back one more year to win it all. Also would like for him to end up with someone.

The Bear is one of my favorites.

Did you try Severance? Great show on Apple. Season 2 next month

We liked severance, but our free trial of Apple has lapsed, so we won’t see the second season unless we reactivate sometime down the line.

Couldn’t finish Shrinking for the same reason, but we really liked that show.

I thought the original reveal and premise of The Good Place was entertaining but beyond that I didn’t care for the show. Ted Lasso is nothing like it. I don’t watch soccer at all and I was very invested into their winning or losing.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has been great so far. Family show but interesting and engaging unlike the last crap show they put out.

Ted Lasso is fantastic show. A human story told in a soccer world but the soccer is secondary and sometimes tertiary to the plot. It’s worth powering through. The characters’ story arcs and their growth were fun for me.

The recent Joker movie came out on HBO. It’s ok. It’s slow and the musical interludes can become distracting. I’m not sure this was the appropriate story after thr first movie.
The musical thing came as a shock to a lot of people. It was also long. Somehow, it also cost over $100 million to make when the original only cost about... $30 million? And I've heard about that ending, I'd be pissed off too.

We have it from a friend, who in turn gets it from her parents.

Superman teaser trailer came out today

Movie looks possibly a little overstuffed with characters but Gunn said there is little to nothing of the movie that isn’t about the current movie; so maybe it all works over the course of the movie.

For me, the vibe was good; epic, serious, and hopeful was what I felt the movie was giving off, which is a great start for what an enjoyable Superman story can be.

DC has really struggled with its gritty no super powers take on Batman and its high powered heroes. Hopefully Gunn can figure it out for them.

Superman just doesn't fit in that mode. I watched the Richard Donner 1978 movie a while ago. I wouldn't say it's my favorite superhero movie, but I'd say it does the best job of capturing the wonder of the comic books to the movies. He's supposed to have an air of unambiguous good to him. He's not a complex character, but that's not the point.

Putting him in the Zack Snyder brooding universe is like fitting a square peg into a round hole. As a result, Supes is a less recognizable character these days than Batman, which should be unthinkable. I'd also argue that society over the last 15 years or so seems more amenable to a Batman than a Superman, but that's for another time. Not to mention that in other times of national unease, Superman stood out as a model of what to strive for. And I don't think it's a coincidence he's been done dirty by DC and WB in that time.

Here's hoping Gunn understands all this.

The boyscout model of hero doesn’t work all that well if it isn’t tweaked. It’s no surprise to me that the Thor character was mediocre until they realized he needed to change. I think Superman struggles a bit with that. I’m not sure what the best way to recreate him would be but they can’t roll out a Christopher Reeve style of hero in today’s world. Maybe reluctant hero would work? I’m not sure if Superman will work with a comedic approach that is Gunn’s stock in trade. I’m disappointed Phoenix’s Joker was handled the way it was. He’d have made an excellent foil for Pattison’s Batman under different circumstances.

I think it looks awesome, the only thing is how do they call this a teaser trailer? That's absolutely a trailer lol

I think it's a "teaser" in that it's basically a bunch of clips with little to nothing telling you what the story is. I would imagine the "trailer" will have more dialogue and a general idea of what the story will be. It's still dumb the way they label these things though.

Yay, more superhero slop! Take away the toys from WB and Disney FFS, it's all so tiresome. Post Infinity War it's been a total shit show. WB is even more embarrassing with the lineup they have access to, they still can't create anything relevant with the exception of Penguin. These companies have been handed money printing machines and can't help but f*** it up time and time again. For the love of God shelve all these IP's for a decade.

I think a lot of the upcoming Gunn, WB stuff hinges on this Superman movie. I don't have any faith in it at all, looks pretty mid, just more of the same, introducing way too many new characters that nobody knows or cares about that lead to other eventual plot lines/movies…zzzzz. They had Henry Cavil waiting in the wings, who everyone loves as Superman and they still f***ed that up lmao.

Superman to me is a wholesome character who protects and saves the innocent, deals with an interesting/charismatic villain within a simple story/plot. It should be hopeful and optimistic, not dark or be too complicated. I'm sure they'll f*** it up.

For me, a lot of my favorite Superman stories revolve around him not being able to overcome problems because of his superpowers.

He either ends up overcoming them by having an emotional difficulty and figuring out how to deal with it or being so inspiring as a paragon of virtue that others help solve the problem in a way Superman couldn’t.

I think super Superman stories come because they focus on him as a super person and not because of his superpowers.

——————

As an aside, I do think you can have melancholy successful Superman stories too but I wouldn’t lead with those. “For the Man who has Everything” is a great Christmas(since it’s the season) and Superman story but it is bittersweet.
