This is absurd…truly absurd. A one trick show pony who can’t even lead his team to a measly division title let alone a Cup.
A divison title! Someone screen cap, we found a Crosby fan that actually values the regular season!

Even if he is we still got Lemieux.
Even if he is we still got Gretzky :sarcasm:

Rest of the league in shambles at the hoarding of talent.

You'd think McDavid was 38 and at the tail end of his career the way people talk about his lack of championships.

He's 26 and 7 1/2 seasons into his career. Pump the brakes.

Yzerman was 32 when he finally lifted the cup. Stamkos was 30. Ovechkin 33. Not all great players win right away.

I mean hell, Michael Jordan was 29 before he won his first championship and individuals just impact basketball much more then hockey.

The big 4 all won cups, I know it's a team trophy but still. Being one of the all time big 4 legends you need to win. I could see an argument for replacing Howe, as his legacy will fade as it grows older.

The other 3 are near impossible to surpass unless Mcdavid takes his level of talent to the absolute pinnacle with 150+ point seasons, 2000 points, individual hardware and at least a cup, preferably 2.

He is in control of this destiny, I think he will be top 5 when all is said and done. How much higher he climbs we will see. Should be fun to witness. Maybe the big 4 will become the big 5.
you just described jagr......yet nobody talks about him. guess cuz he's czech.

Plenty of people talk about Jagr. He's up there too. McDavid already has 4 rosses, 5 this year so he is on track to surpass Jagr's individual achievements imo. Not sure why you bring up nationality, perhaps it's insecurity on your part.

Im a huge McDavid fan, and I dont see him surpassing Gretzky, Mario or Orr. And when you are talking about the greatest players of a sport, team accomplishments absolutely are in play to some degree. Championships arent the be-all end end-all of things, or Russell would be the undisputed GOAT of basketball. But they 100% play a major part. I would say two cups and one or two conn smythes are required for me to even concider McDavid for a top five of all time. And, he needs like another thousand points.

it's not insecurity. I'm not czech. Just seems to be a thing, especially within the media.

That's fair, he's not looked at the same way as the Canadian legends, but he is a step below the big 4 and McDavid imo. Top 10 forward easily though.

If McDavid hits 180 points next season, would people start considering him the GOAT?

As long as he stays healthy and the NHL doesn't collapse like it does every CBA then I would say he has a solid chance at #1.

Yeah, Gretzky doing everything Mario did or dreamed of doing first, faster, and better has nothing to do with it.
Is the Mario > Gretzky thing similar to OV > Crosby? Anybody who saw both want to chime in? As someone who didn’t follow hockey enough at the time to see and appreciate their primes, I’m curious how anybody could make an argument of Mario > Gretzky without having drank the Mario Kool-Aid and binged highlight videos.
