I think people need to watch Hughes more if they haven’t this season, he looks far scarier than I’ve ever seen McDavid look. McDavid doesn’t have the same swagger or control over a game, McDavid just does everything fast. Big whoop. Hughes does it with elegance, swagger, rizz, etc. He plays a much more aesthetically pleasing game, no awkward photos, no dull interviews, the true face of the game (well until a certain someone returns). McDavid may be a zoomer but he plays a boring millennial style of game, vanilla. Hughes & Bedard are futuristic, they play the game of a different era. McDavid has become a relic of the past.

This is satire, right?

I watch a lot of Devils hockey because they play an awesome brand of hockey, but he doesn't scare anyone more than McDavid.

This kind of hype becomes so toxic later when the young player doesn't live up to being as good a top 10 player of all time.

Factually wrong? Would love to hear the facts here.

He has 116p in his last 84gp, despite playing a large chunk of those games hurt after the ASG.

For 130 points, he needs 113p in his final 76gp. Using his pace over his prior 84 games, he would score 105 points. In those 76 games, leaving him with 122 for the year.

Now that's including a sample that is tainted by injury. Ignoring that injured period, he's got 84p in 56gp since the start of last year. If he continues that pace over his final 76 games, he'd finish with 132 points.

Obviously he's not going to score 232 points, but his underlying numbers through his first 6 games are consistent with a player who should be scoring at a 145+ point pace with average puck luck.

To the bolded - in the last 26 years of NHL hockey - there has been 1 instance of a player scoring more than 130 points in a season.

It's a fact - it's more likely that Hughes finishes below 120 points then above 130 points.

And it happened last year. Literally each of the last 2 seasons something happens that is "unprecedented". Johnny Gaudreau was the first player to score 90 ES points since the mid 90s, and the first player to have +64 since 80s Gretzky.

That's an opinion. The fact is that the overwhelming majority of NHL players never score 130 points. Jack Hughes' recent pace while healthy, added to his impressive start, would put him at a 132 points in a full season.

Just because you don't understand nuance doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I see we have found Pierre McGuire's HF account lol

Now *this* is a post! Swagger and rizz, baby.

HFboards now overrates cap space as much as draft picks.

4.5 difference in cap space and people are thinking this matters? Look around the league at the average 4.5 AAV player signed recently. Yes give me the league MVP and best player in the world over a great player but one that is clearly beneath McDavid and not only that, only been "on his level" for what 7 games?

4.5 mln now, 6 or 7m in few years. Plus you get additional 4 years with Hughes because of age difference. It is valid argument if Hughes can be 120 pts player.

You should start a poll here asking people "what is more likely - Hughes scores over 130 points, or under 120 points if he plays 82 games".

It's obvious which of the two are more likely.

Bro, you really care way too much about nonsense that doesn't matter in the NHL. I don't even think Hughes is a more exciting player to watch. McDavid is a boring interview, who cares?

He has swag and class for days, and is handsome. Easy choice for me

J.Hughes could be the 2nd most valuable ATM, but this poll is still rightfully McDavid's.

Similar to the Stutzle/Matthews poll, the bolded keeps coming up as though that's the only scenario where that extra cap space is spent. It's not "Player X plus another player who makes $4.5 million", it's "Player X plus an additional $4.5 million in cap space".

Look at the Leafs at the end of this season. Nylander's contract is up and the concern is how to find the cap space to fit his new deal in because he's probably going to want $3 to $4 million more than he currently makes, but the Leafs don't know where they'll get that extra money to fit him in.

Now imagine a scenario where the Leafs magically just have an additional $4.5 million in cap space going into the off-season. Suddenly that $3-4 million raise is covered and they don't have to a]lose him or b]lose another piece to fit him in.

For the record, I'm not saying that Hughes plus cap space IS more valuable than McDavid. I'm just pointing out this flawed way of thinking that the ONLY option for that cap space is to spend it on a player who makes exactly that amount of money.
