It was I who revived the thread (not an Oilers fan), purely out of interest in his performance thus far.

Thank you for that. It was nice not worshiping him for a few days. We were able to listen to Oilers fans whine about the refs instead.

Not sure which is worse.

am I the only person who thinks McDavid is only good for shooting and skating? Matthews is a much better COMPLETE player so far.

This is because all you do is watch is highlights of McDavid rushing down the ice and scoring instead of games where he does so much more.

He's been very dangerous in the Anaheim series from a Ducks fan perspective. His goal last game was awesome.

Anaheim has been successful against him when they prevent him from getting the puck and force his linemates to have it the whole time. Once he gets it, it's chaos for the ducks. I've definitely been impressed by him.

I sort of get what you mean, his speed and play off the rush is by far the most lethal part of his game. He doesn't have much grind to his game. But he's really not built to grind.

he seemed to have a shift in the 3rd where he got angry or something but whatever it was he decided to take over and essentially nobody could do anything on the opposition.

pretty insane shift.

You haven't watched many Oilers games then huh? He was tied for 3rd in the league this year with 76 takeaways with...Auston Matthews. He is defensively responsible and it's a part of his game non Oilers fans ignore or ignorantly dismiss.

Matthews is a sniper and gets those dirty goals. Goes to the danger areas and has a nose for the back of the net. He also plays defense but I do not think he is on the same level as McDavid as a complete player.

I mean, McDavid had more assists than Matthews had points.

Whoever broke up Mc David -Draisaitl needs to be fired immidiately. I mean waht's the logic behind that. They were absolutely killing it in the last 20 games of the regular season. :shakehead:shakehead:shakehead

You were saying? Connor has been OK, but he needs to be great to elevate his team.

I think he has had a very satisfactory playoff in relation to his stature as the "Next One". As long as he didn't look completely lost out there, his first playoff experience would be gravy in terms of his development.

That being said, if the narrative was until a week ago was that he was great because the Oilers were winning, what is the narrative now that he has produced more but the Oilers are losing?

personally I think he's been unreal. He literally can alter the momentum when things are going against the Oilers way he will go on the ice and force the play back into ducks territory. Easily Edmontons best player, personally I think he's the best player in the series.

I guess that question has been answered.

But OK, we'll pretend that Getzlaf doesn't have double the amount of points this series.

McDavid is fine and this thread is overreacting... but do you really believe that? Have you just been closing your eyes every time Getzlaf is on the ice?

I think Draisaitl has been Edmonton's best player honestly. Getzlaf has very easily been the most dominant player in the series.

Big Oiler fan here.
McDavid's production has come in losing causes. He hasnt taken over a game to provide a win like Kassian Talbot Larsson Draisaitl have during these playoffs. Still waiting for that.
I say Oilers get blown out in game 6, but Id love to be wrong and see McD take over a game for a win.

He's good for skating, passing, and hands. His shot is weak. He's always quite strong when puck protecting. I do agree Matthews is a more complete player. They both do a number of things better than the other, however saying this usually brings crazed Oiler fans to yell at you.

He did it for a shift, Getzlaf's done it for a series. :)

I thought the bat out of the air goal was fairly Crosby-like to be honest. If he'd a banked it off the goalies head and in there, it would for sure be Crosbyesque.

McDavid will be the best player in the game soon, but not yet. He lacks the experience players like Crosby, Malkin, and Getzlaf possess and it's showing in the playoffs.
