I'm arguing with my friend because he thinks mcdavid is still 2 to 3 weeks away!
He could be 2 still.

I check this thread three times a day for updates. I'm hoping McDavid can be back for the Jan. 8th game as he will have exactly half a season left to make a mark on this season. Seems reasonable but on the low end of reasonable.
whats the number of games played amount when you dont burn a year of the ELC?

and at the 40 game mark gets him a year closer to UFA status.
McKenzie said last year it is the player's 40th game played, not the team's.He's already hit this one. His injury happened when he was on the active roster so the games he ahs missed count.
http://www.tsn.ca/mckenzie-10-game-threshold-holds-different-meaning-for-different-teams-1.117970If a player plays in his 40th game of the season, it counts as an accrued year of service counting towards the seven years required to become an unrestricted free agent. Put more in terms us laymen can understand: if your favourite team's underage junior plays in 40 games this season, the clock starts ticking on his seven-year countdown to unrestricted free agency.

"Accrued Season" means any League Year during which a Player was on a
Club's Active Roster for 40 (30 if the Player is a goalie) or more Regular Season Games,
provided that, for the purposes of calculating an Accrued Season under this Agreement, games missed due to a hockey-related injury incurred while on a Club's Active Roster shall count as games played for purposes of calculating an Accrued Season but only during the League Year in which the injury was incurred and a maximum of one additional season.
Well how about that. Thanks for posting. From the NHL CBA:
The 40 game ship has sailed.
So they'd have to hold him out until there are only 26 games left in order to not burn up a year? (that would be a very long time yet and probably very unrealistic).
Stupid question and I know it won't happen, but can he go to the AHL for a conditioning stint? More interested in the rules that him actually going down there.
He can't go to the AHL. He has to be 19 years of age
when, and why.
THE AGREEMENT
There is an agreement in place between the NHL and the CHL (Canadian Hockey League, the overarching organization beneath which stand the OHL, the WHL, and the QMJHL) which exists primarily to protect the CHL. The rule is as follows:
Players drafted and playing for CHL teams are ineligible to play in the professional minor leagues (AHL, ECHL) until they are 20 years old (by December 31st of that year) or have completed four years in major juniors. A perfect example of this is Jared Knight, this year. Knight won't turn 20 until January 16, 2012. He's already completed two years in juniors, playing his third in London this season. If things continue along their course, and Knight does not make the NHL Bruins for the 2011-2012 season, he'll have to play that year in London as well, and will be eligible for AHL play in 2012-2013. Barring CHL involvement, players have to be 18 by September 15 to be eligible for the AHL at all.
No to first game against the Shames as the Shames will find something dirty to do to injure him again.Mckenzie was on with 1260 this morning before they shut down the morning show for the WJC games. He of course gave a disclaimer he isn't a doctor, etc. etc. but as McDavid is back practicing with the team, he thinks we can probably circle mid-January on the calendar for his return to the lineup, with a plus or minus of four or five days.
I'm thinking he either returns for the CBC game against Wullerton (spit) on the 16th or the game against the Coyotes on the 11th as that is the start of three divisional games in a row and they will still likely need to make up some ground.
Don't think so. Buffalo tried that with Grigorenko I think and it was rejected. He can go on a conditioning stint despite being under age for the agreement. One of the loopholes.
Having said that, it would be insane to do that. This isn't some borderline NHL'er. McDavid, simply put, will help this team win games regardless of his "gameshape". Put him in the lineup when he's ready.
