Connor McDavid injured vs. Blue Jackets, won't return (upd: back after missing 3 games)

It's up to Leon now. He must step up for them and lead them to some wins here. For 2 reasons: 1. make sure they don't have to rush McDavid

2. If they don't win some games here, they will be in an uphill battle all season and might get stuck in a wildcard spot playing Dallas or Vegas in round 1.

Didn't Bob Stauffer say this was month to month as a best case scenario?

Of course the media over inflated it lol. Being out for a couple weeks shouldn't really matter as the Oilers are the cup favorite.

Unless the Oilers go in the toilet over the next 2-3 weeks.

They're not the Cup favorite at this point IMHO.

Best-case scenario, the Oilers keep their heads above water and give McDavid the time he needs without feeling the need to rush it.

Personally, I don’t want to see him back for the next ten games, taking us through November 20. To avoid that “bring him back now” pressure, they need to pull off at least a 5-4-1 record and keep the blowout losses to a minimum.

The problem? There aren’t any freebies over the next ten. Maybe two against Nashville, but even they might be shaking off the dust after a brutal start.

In a fantasy world, Draisaitl needs to do his best Malkin impression and hand McDavid back a better record, like the Penguins seemed to all those times when Crosby missed huge chunks of the season.

This is definitely Leon's time to show he's worth that massive raise. The good news is he has picked it up before- I believe he's around 1.5 PPG when Connor isn't in the lineup.

However RNH also needs to step up. He's been largely invisible offensively, especially on the PP. If this team is going to finish above 0.500 the next month he will have to be a big part of the solution.

In the betting odds, they are now barely above Dallas, Rangers, Toronto, Florida. Barely above Carolina, Avs and Devils.

They should have never been the favorites. They lost too much speed, size, confidence of youth and forechecking ability over the summer of 2024. The offer sheets were quite damaging (lets be honest about that now), losing a good 3C for nothing of help this season was damaging. Losing Foegele was damaging, his play-style is ready made for the playoffs. They lost a big defender that killed penalties. They lost a middle pair vet RHD that killed penalties. Add them all up and they lost a lot of what makes a playoff team hard to play against in the playoffs.

The Oilers never got better this summer. They got worse and that should be quite apparent at this point.

They've also had a long run of luck with injuries that seems to have finally run out. Kane and now McDavid. They'll suffer others as this season goes along. It's really hard to win the Cup. Really hard. And to get that close and not close the deal was a blow. A motivational blow to go from the cusp all the way back to square one. Based on the standings today, the oilers are behind 24 other teams in the standings. They'll have the 8th overall pick in 2025. Humans are humans. It's not easy to put a major disappoint behind you and easily move on.

There’s a lot of idiotic posts in this thread, but this one sets the bar for complete uselessness.

Ah, yes, the “true hockey fan” who rejoices at player injuries.

I highly doubt you even watch games. You’re just here for the alpha flexing.
This site can be pretty sad and pathetic sometimes.

Apart from Kane, the Oilers have been quite lucky with injuries for a couple of years now, looks like that's going to change. Sucks but they'll rally around Drai, he upped his game in the past whenever McDavid was out.

So wait is it a few weeks or a couple months ? Last page said 2 to 3 weeks , this page says month to month

Hope he recovers quickly, the Oilers should be okay if they can tread at .500 for a month.

Kinda slow start to the season once again and now injured? I reckon he’s finished :sarcasm:

or you just do not understand how much we like it when oiler fans suffer
I get it, you really don’t care about the sport itself. It’s all about the “hard hitting” trolling for you.

The sport of hockey is actually pretty awesome. Watch a game or two sometime, you’ll probably like it.

He’s below a ppg without McDavid

Blatant intent to injure, should be a suspension but there wasn't even a penalty. And here the league can't figure out why ratings are cratering into the basement.
doesn't look like intent to injure at all. no need to be over the top like another fanbase in the Atlantic

53 pts in 54 games...

You're definitely right.

He is not 1.0ppg
He is .98 ppg

Hoping for a 2 point game in Nashville (one of his fav opponents) tomorrow to right the ship!
.98 is a big difference from the 1.5 the OP said 😄

Doesn’t he usually feast on Nashville? 43 points in 27 games I think?

The vast majority of Draisaitl games without McDavid occurred almost 9 years ago.
That stat must have excluded them (otherwise math doesn't add up: McDavid missed around 40 games in his rookie season, and Draisatl had played 37 games by that time already).

Half of these games were in Draisatl second season. He probably is significantly above PPG outside of that season.

That's sad. Unless all the other contenders have off-years, this means another year without an Art Ross for mcDavid. :(
