Connor McDavid has literally twice as many points as Auston Matthews

The Hart isn't supposed to be awarded to the best player. It's supposed to be awarded to the best/most valuable (each voter will have their own definition) for strictly one given season. McDavid wasn't stolen at all last year - what Matthews accomplished, both offensively and defensively, was quite extraordinary and absolutely worthy of the MVP title. Playoffs, prior or subsequent season performances - those all hold 0 value.

It was one of the greatest analytics season since 07-08 (aka "analytics history"), if not the best - until McDavid happened this year.

I was personally less upset about the Hart than the Lindsay.

You just knew a thread like this would pop up during a Oilers vs Leafs game.

Dumb answer. If the Hart is just for the nicest narrative, why does it have any historical value? If that's how you're going to vote for it, it joins the Messier and Calder trophies in the garbage can.
This is ironic considering you completely missed the ball on your understanding of my post.

Nowhere did I mention that Matthews strictly won because "woah nice narrative". What I'm saying is basically that Matthews has a lot of strong supporting elements justifying his win.

I mean yeah, McDavid is better

But Matthews literally doesn't shoot wrist shots anymore, something is off with him
There was always “something off with him”, even when he was shooting lasers.

Wow, talk about a thread of insecurity.

Are you upset Matthews is the reigning Rocket, Hart and Ted Lindsay winner?

Matthews has also missed games this year due to injury.

That said, yes, it's obvious McDavid has been having a better year than Matthews. So has Marner and Nylander this year.

It’s just hockey talk. Just like it was last year when Marner carried Mathews and McDavid was slightly below his best.

Remember, when you a point a finger at someone, you are also pointing 3 at yourself.

Analytics are nice at predicting what will probably happen but awards are for what actually did happen.

Matthews was far better than Marner last year. This talk of him being carried is unfounded and ridiculous. This thread is nothing more than OP being upset McDavid didn't sweep the awards last year and lashing out at an extremely opportune time.

Perhaps you’re right. As I noted earlier here, Matthews is still an elite scorer, a threat to hit 50 and competed for rockets, but those uber crazy totals would only come with Marner.

Matthews scoring took a significant bump as soon as Keefe put them together, even if it was great before, and he’s seen a decrease since being apart from Marner.

Marner on the other hand will literally give every linemate career type seasons.

There is no secret that Matthews has had an off-season. Ovechkin has also had off seasons in his career as well, despite winning how many rocket Richard trophy’s. It happens, not the end of the world.

Analytics aren't strictly for predicting

I'm not talking about just expected goals for or corsi. There are several analytics that can be used to assess actual performance.
Like being on the ice for 10 more 5x5 goals against than McDavid in 7 fewer games? Wow, what stout defense. Give him the Selke now!

They could be entirely true, but has nothing to do with the fact that although Matthews was always a lethal scorer, his numbers spiked with Marner, and support without him and the fact that Marner provides ever single linemate with career season type stats.
