Bedard vs Michkov

Votes are completely split down the middle right now 174-174.

#1 and #2 in scoring as an underager for Michkov (late birthday is why he’s 2023 eligible) and double underager for Bedard at the U-18s.

Canada v Russia face off for the U-18 Gold today and these two have certainly lived up to the hype all tournament as a 15 and 16 year old at this tournament.

Couldn’t have written a better script for it going into the Gold medal game.

Gonna have to go Bedard here. He controls the play game he's on the ice. Michkov seems more of an opportunist. Gonna be interesting to see how Michkov responds to physical play from the Canadians. He's got to keep his head up when Stillman and Othmann are out there.

Matier and Del Mastro are big boys on D who have thrown their weight around this tournament as well. Del Mastro has had a few massive hits.

Something tells me this is the beginning of many Canada Russia Gold medal games involving Bedard and Michkov.

There is no greater theater in Hockey than that, and now two generational talents will bring this rivalry to the next level!

Nobody scored more goals/points then peak Ovechkin. Matthews never did and never will compete for a AR and that’s not even because of McDavid.
Nobody? lol . I seem to remember a guy named Gretzky scoring more goals/points than anybody else. Hey if makes you feel better Wayne was a Canadian of Russian descent (partial).
I'm going with Bedard because he's a center and controls the play more when he's not scoring. Michkov may win a bunch of Rockets though. Michkov's nickname should be the shark. If the puck's anywhere near the opposition net that kid smells blood.

At this point in time, we pretty much have to establish Connor Bedard as at least a McDavid-level talent, if not better. It's tough though, because you can't know how exactly his game will translate to NHL.

I don't really see Michkov being on the same level. Perhaps a McDavid-Eichel type of a situation.

Whoever dominates the final more should be frontrunner at this point, no excuses afterwards

When I voted this winter, Bedard was inactive and only had 28% of the votes.

The gap between Bedard and Michkov will be tighter than between McDavid and Eichel.

Right now, Bedard is probably no better than Michkov. It is the age, the position and the contract that make Bedard appear as the No.1.

McDavid largely outperformed Eichel in the 2012/13 season.

It's really unfair to compare anyone to McDavid. McDavid is way faster.
McDavid was already a top 5 player in the NHL at age 16:
You’ve Got to Want the Pressure | By James Neal

Bedard i would compare to Kane, and Michkov is reminding me of Matthews (but both a year more developed), what that means for pro point, i have no idea. If they ever do reach McDavid level though they'll get them very different ways than he does.

Bedard's crazy laser goal from last game reminds me of one Kane scored against Van in the playoffs, maybe it was 2011 but i might be misremembering it. Where if McDavid had that 1 on 1 he would've just blown by the D and got a partial break away.

Gretzky's fathers ancestry was from Belarus and Ukraine. Ukrainian was the only slavic language spoken in the home by his Grandmother.

I go with Bedard but cannot go wrong with Michkov. Still early between those guys.

One thing where Michkov has obvious advantage is physicality. He plays very NHL game. Will he have enough health during his career for such a game, I wonder.
