Beddard looks to be a step beyond everyone else--no team is trading him unless you give them everything including the kitchen sink

NHL fans would be pissed off if Montreal is even in the top 5. How do you have a team that drafted first overall. Get into the top 5 when we’re struggling and can’t even get a first overall pick.

The league would be spitting in Anaheims face, Vancouver’s face, and others. We never had a first overall pick. This draft year is precious we all know that.

But having Montreal in the top 5 after having a first overall would make it super suspect on how this draft works imo

If Montreal offered there 1st, Caufield and Suz, which Montreal should never do unless they want gut team and up like Oilers, but really which team could even offer up more than that in which it would work for both teams and make sense, Nobody! That's who.

And no Leaf fans, a team would not trade for a 26 years old soon to be UFA when they are rebuilding.

what does toronto have anything to do with this thread? The leafs are competing for the Stanley cup, while Montreal is at the bottom of the standings yet again.

I’m not sure what’s worse, the fact that you’re obsessed with the leafs or that you think the habs can offer the best package for Bedard.

Nothing makes sense in a trade. Even just from a revenue sense a team would beyond stupid to trade a prospect of this level

This. The owner would have the GM assassinated before he can fax the papers.

That’s why Anaheim makes sense. Look what Anaheim did with Ohtani in baseball. He’s a super star. Look at Justin Turner super star for Dodgers. Lebron James etc. California pays the most in the entire country and Canada regarding sports this is factual information.

You give Anaheim Bedard? Everyone is going to Honda center. The team store will be sold out daily. California has money to spend. And I hope Bettman knows that.

You saw what happened to Gretzky in LA. We spend money on sports like no one’s business.

It’s just not happening.

Bedard would be traded in a Lindros type trade if moved. It would have to be a franchise crippling move for Montreal and an offer too good for a team like Anaheim, Chicago, Arizona to pass on.

I don’t see it.

Literally no combination of assets.

Whoever gets the pick is not trading it. Simple as that, end of story.

Not going to happen, but Montreal definitely would need to at least have the 2nd pick to even come close to talking about it. Would require another significant asset though

We completely understand that. But don’t you think other fans would question that Montreal who just drafted first overall. Is now in the top 5 again? I mean cmon the entire league of fans would be skeptical to say the least on the lottery.

I know I am already after that weighted ball from New York Rangers

Montreal is almost in the top 5 based on standing ding dong. Yes it would be such a conspiracy if they won a top 5 pick 😄
And in other news, water is wet.

Mcdavid value might be better than an entire teams but the team consistently sucks.

I'd rather not gut the entire team just to land the "next superstar"

We build the team balanced and deep, and not like the oilers.

So we win the lottery or we draft twice in the top 15. It's that simple

In other news, you don’t deserve a top 5 pick. While majority of us hasn’t had one in years. Luckily Habs are doing okay. They won’t see the light of day in the top 5. And seeing Bedard is moot.

Make it happen Bettman. Us lower dwelling teams deserve this draft more than others.

obviously no team getting Bedard will deal him; the optics alone would be terrible...but how does trading suzuki, beck and maybe fantilli and other pieces help the habs after they've finally started to carefully rebuild?

You'd think adding 2 forwards in that top 12 group - maybe two in the top 10 + suzuki, caufield, Slafkovsky, guhle etc....would be more than enough to make team formidable within 2-3 years.

i love Bedard, but there's also a risk of a set back with the pieces going out

2023 7th overall
2023 12th overall
Caufield
Suzuki
Guhle

For

2023 1st overall

Not sure they'd say yes even for all this tbh
Hughes wouldn't make that trade; that's insane

and that's why hughes is not stupid enough to do it

The price for Bedard would have to be something that sets the team up for years of being a dynasty, similar to what Quebec got for Lindros.

Suzuki + Caufield + both 2023 firsts at minimum.

Bedard is worth too much from a revenue standpoint for this to simply be a hockey trade. Any team he goes to will see a huge spike in ticket and merchandise sales.

If Mtl doesn't Win the Bedard derby, what kind of price would they have to pay to get him?

2023 1st (Mtl)
2023 1st (Flo)
Dach

Or

2023 1st (Mtl)
Choice of Suzuki or Caufield
Choice of Roy or Beck

Does it get it done? Or at least, is it a good starting point?
No. Beyond hockey, if the kid lives up to the hype, you have marketing dream for any team that gets him.

Neither offer is nearly tempting enough to move the needle.

Think massive overpayment, then add
