I say sign a top 6 that is flippable, play him with Bedard to get his stats up, trade for another 1st.

You realize the Hawks still need to get to the cap floor, Reichel is probably up full time next season, and they can sign another top six guy on a short deal to play with him?
have you looked at the UFA market in regard to goals from last season. if you remove RFA's and older guys who want to chase cups. Bergeron, kane pariase. killorn. the 3 best UFA's under 30 are bunting AA and Domi. I like Domi but I dont need him teaching bedard Hockey.

I agree my point was KD burnt a year for what you all thought was no reason and he had his reasons. KD thinks differently then GMS from a few years ago. we are going to be worse next year then we were this year! we lost our 2nd best D, our best bottom 6 lafferty, our best center at least the 1 st half of the year and our best wing. Putting Bedard out there with a AHL team in the NHL does not make alot of sense.

Burning a year off of reichels deal was idiotic. That said bedard is not reichel, he’ll probably lead the hawks in points next year. There’s 0 chance bedard doesn’t play all year next year. 0

You are missing a ton of players out there. Compher would be a perfect add here and a local boy. Zucker would be nice too. You can always find solid 2 way players in UFA, we aren't looking for players to be here in 6 years but surely a few of these cats will sign 3 years to play with this kid..

Typically you have to overpay some to get a couple of these players but our cap situation actually might need us to overpay to hit the damn floor.

You seem to be creating an issue where there isn't one. Players will sign here because we have cap space and can play with elite young talent. What we do right now isn't indicicative of what we do in 3 years time. But now is when you have to at least start this process.

Kind of think you stick to the plan and don't make any huge moves. We got Bedard. He can play a year here on a crappy team then we get another shot at the first overall next year.

Stay the course or make a huge move and get another high draft pick this year then stay the course. Either way, stay the course and don't make impulse signings.

Not sure if this is talked about but it’d be interesting if Bedard changes the Captaincy situation. Personally I would still give to Jones and give Bedard the A when Murphy or who ever leaves.

The best name change you've ever made since you've been here.

Exciting times. Hopefully Nazar and KK hit their ceilings and we hit a few home runs in this year's draft.

Apparently Hawks there were 1001 posdible 4 number combinations in the lottery systen to apportion out according to their %chances of landing the #1pick according to their finish ranking in reverse ..Hawks winning number for tge first draw fortfe #1was 4,5,9, and q3....Tge Vancouver Canucks had 1 of their 4 number balsl with tge numbers 4 5.9 and 12...so they just missed out on Bedard by 1 measles number ..Hawks got tge lucky "13" ...but for this tiny difference in luck Bedard coukd have been with Vancouver...

I disagree a bit, I wouldn't make any crazy moves for sure, but I would do something like what the Bears did this off-season. Spend for some pieces that won't kill your cap long term, but put some pieces in place to start building something for 2024-25 season.

Agree to not make any impulse signings, but I think it would be a mistake to do nothing significant, you want to start putting pieces in place to make sure you give the kid as good a chance at success as possible.

Same thing happened to the Hawks with Dahlin. In similar scenarios, it means that another team had 3,5,9,13 and 4,5,8,13. A lot of teams were one number away.

If you can get a good piece that bodes well for the future, of course.

I don't see any fa's this year outside of Domi worth too much tho. Love Kane and Toews, but that ship has sailed.

I would be more interested in the prospects getting looks then signing guys just for the sake of signing people, that's my point. I wouldn't be against Laff if the price was a second rounder. Moves like that.

A veteran C/W that plays in the top six will really, really help Bedard and his development. I think that's the only real move the Hawks make.

First post in 8 years. I started boycotting the Hawks and the NHL when the Hawks traded Panarin. Haven't watched a Hawks game since. Stopped watching the NHL altogether. This season I decided to dip my toes back in the water and follow the league again, but not the Hawks.

Been saying all year that if they get Bedard I'll forgive them and lift the boycott. So I'm back! Go Hawks!

Looking forward to following this rebuild.

trying to remember, did they give Toews the C immediately or did he have to wait a year? I would do the same with Bedard whatever it was.

Give Murphy the C. In about 2-4 years, if everything goes as expected, Bedard will get the C as Murphy moves on.

As for Bedard, there's no way we can hide his talent. He'll be playing at the UC this October. He's too good and a waste of time for his development. There will be no bridge deal if everything goes as expected. He'll get max years and length. That should be the assumption.

The one thing we shoild be try to do ... find a good veteran for his line. A professional with decent skill who'll sign a 2 year deal. October of 2025 is when we should expect the team to somewhat contend. At least make the playoffs and hopefully make some noise.

If Bedard is becomes what most think, we need to manage our cap thoughtfully. No careless spending spree (i.e. long term contract with no movement clause). The next 2 years should be short contracts even if a bit more expensive. We need financial flexibility when we're finally ready to contend like we did for Hossa. We already have the blueprint.

I believe the Hawks did not have a Captain for a year when Toews was rookie. They had alternates ... and then gave Toews the C the following year.
