"He's a Blackhawk! That's unreal". I agree Moore.

I really love in this bts video that they catch moore talking about how he'd love to play with bedard, and his whole family is so excited when he does get picked. Can't wait to see those 2 as electric teammates in the near future.

Do you see Bedard signing 5 or 8 years after his ELC?

Now that Matthews keeps going for short term deals this has to be asked

Matthews is a sack. Hawks are gonna push for 8 years and Bedard is either gonna sign that or he can be bridged until he comes to his senses. The whole Matthews saga was simply a GM not doing his job. RFAs have no leverage, that contract should have never been offered in the first place.

He certainly can if he wants to and Matthews could be an example to follow but we will see.
Yeah that's something to watch. If he's the goods(and we have no reason to believe he isn't) I don't think re-signing him each time will be a problem, the Hawks will make it happen just like the Leafs are with Matthews.

I think it is a matter of the market and the success. Toronto is a whole different level of pressure, criticism, and your life on display. Couple that with their inability to get it done and mounting frustration, I can see why Matthews may want to err on the side of caution when committing to Toronto.

Bedard does not seem to be like Matthews at all personality wise, seems more like Sid or Toews, is going to get paid a lot at some point but can see him being loyal for a long time assuming the org treats him well and is willing to do whatever it takes to give him the best chance to win cups

I think quite a bit will have to do with how things work not just with Matthews but with McDavid too if he doesn't get to a cup final in the next 2 years.

Karlsson is in a dumpster fire of a situation. Gaudreau may not work out so well. If the Bruins fall apart in a couple years, Pasta may be a warning. Jumbo picked his spots and usually got to play for a team within reach of contention.

May be about how much the kid wants to win vs having the $$ and security guaranteed.

Anyway, who knows what a teenager will do but I think we'll start seeing more good players choose shorter contracts for several reasons, including winning.

As an aside: the money that gets fired around in other sports (using basketball in this example) is absurd.

Jaylen Brown, who isn’t even a top 10 player in the league, just signed a FIVE YEAR 300+ million dollar contract. As it stands it’s the biggest contract ever handed out in the sport and like I said it was given to a player who isn’t even top 10 in the league (probably nowhere close to top 10, actually).

This is a laughable notion. The PLAYERS generate billions of dollars annually, they're actually being cheated out of what they deserve by owners (just like any other company). Its the same bullshit argument NCAA used for decades "but they're getting an education!!" While making billions off the kids.

The workers generate 100% of the revenue, the owner steals 30% or more for doing literally nothing. Moreover sports franchises are an appreciating asset, their valuation rises at an extremely high rate, so the owners are essentially double-dipping on their profits. Michael Jordan bought the Bobcats/Hornets majority stake 13 years ago for $275k he sold it for $3BILLION DOLLARS. The greatest player in history made 30 times as much as his playing career by being a part owner of a shitty franchise. Think about that for a minute

NHL players deserve more too they just have a shitty union.

I’m not an apologist for billionaires, but there’s so much wrong with this post that I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

I was comparing the money in basketball to the money in hockey.

A guy like Jaylen Brown getting paid 300 million over 5 years is like a guy like prime Patrick Sharp getting paid 300 million over 5 years. They’re both great players (nowhere near top 10 in their respective sports).

It’s like they’re spending monopoly money or Canadian Tire money ffs.

The NBA also has a 50/50 range revenue split with the players & owners. Just like the NHL.

The NBA has less players to pay though and makes way more money. So players great and ok will undoubtedly make way more.

I hate when the business of sports elbows its way into my consciousness but it's part of the game so it's not something I can completely ignore - the NHL salary cap alone has required more of my attention than I can stomach.

There is a plain as day reason for the disparity in NHL salaries and NBA salaries, and it's not that NHL owners are more greedy than NBA owners - it's that the consumer market for NBA games is greatly larger then the consumer market for NHL games, and the ripple effect that creates in all the revenue streams. Like it or not - hockey is still the red headed stepchild when compared to the other 3 major sports.
