Isn't the President's Trophy percentage at winning the Cup higher over the last like 40 years than winning from other seeds?
Yes, the President's Trophy has the highest winrate of all seed positions.

And the second place has historically been far more cursed than the first place.

too bad he is nearly always injured, otherwise you'd have a good point
One of these things where you wonder whether the players would do well to play in AHL for some time until entering NHL. I know his ability is good enough but injuries when you're young can leave a mark for your entire career.

And Rangers fans couldn't win "King" Henrik a cup either despite him being arguably the best Goalie in the NHL for the better part of a decade.
Hank took up a lot of cap space. It was hard to get enough good players in under the cap.

Winning more than 2/3 of your games with a +1 5v5 goal differential is amusing
Considering that they had the following players for 30+ games this season:

Nick Bonino
Tyler Pitlick
Blake Wheeler

Of course their 5v5 numbers suck over the course of the full season. Bonino was getting slotted on the 3rd line cause of Chytil being out and Goodrow being absolute ass. Since the deadline, which is what matters since they have their actual team and not the one that was iced in October, it's been above average at 5v5 while maintaining a top tier PK and very good PP.

Shesterkin had an .899 SV% at the all star break. Ryan Lindgren sucked hard for the majority of the season. Chytil, being one of their better 5v5 players, played 10 games and looks like he is coming back for the playoffs.

Tonight may have changed it but going into tonight they were a negative goal differential 5v5 on the season. Don't think they are the ones to buck the trend of best regular season team not winning it all. But we shall see.
What am I missing here. Almost positive they are a +21 in 5 on 5 goal differential. They have out scored the hurricanes 5 on 5 205-197. You want to include empty net goals they still out score the hurricanes 186-178. If you include both empty net goals and empty net goals allowed the rangers are still a plus 17. Not sure where these stats are coming from.

IMO, the President's trophy is the worst of all the trophies. The regular season is only for playoff position and the President's Trophy is nothing more than a participation trophy

So the top team with the best 5v5 GD ever, last year's bruins got knocked the f*** out in the first round. What exactly is this supposed to show?

None of this president's trophy nonsense matters other than home ice through out the POs which is huge for New York. The Rangers are tied with Colorado for the most home wins in the league this season and that's a real advantage from finishing first overall.

No idea where you get your stats from. 5v5 goals for and against stats in the links above.

Rangers are +2 (and were +3 in their final game, so they were -1 before that)
Canes are +29

My post was just pointing out that their 5v5 play leaves a lot to be desired for a "best team in the league" especially in the playoffs with less penalties called.

With this reply, I am not sure you do...

An award for the best regular season is weaker than non-alcoholic beer. Sports are played to win championships.
As a Ranger fan are you going to buy 2024 President's trophy swag and rock a hat or put a patch on jersey?

This. Find me a Cup winning team with Center depth as weak as Rangers during Lundqvist's prime years. I don't know if it exists (Habs 93 maybe?).

Edit: Derek Stepan, Derick Brassard, JT Miller (the mercurial Miller in his early 20s getting 40-50 pts a season, not the Miller we see now).

For the first time in Las Vegas Golden Knights history the New York Rangers have won the President's Trophy, congrats!

He was basically going solo. There were seasons where our top scorer didnt even crack 60 points.

These are ACTUAL season team highs during Henrik's tenure:

Nikolai Zherdev 58 points
Brandon Dubinsky 54 points (2nd was Callahan with 48)
Derek Stephan 44 points (lockout year)
Mats Zuccarello 56 points
Mats Zuccarello 59 points
Mats Zuccarello 53 points

Rick Nash scored 76 points one year, and we were about ready to give him a key to the city and retire his number.

We had to send Dan Girardi to the All Star game one year as our team representative.

I don't think anyone understands the complete lack of talent on those ranger teams, despite making the playoffs every year.
