How are you this bad with this much talent? You can’t live and die by your power play all the time.

Luckily it’s early in the season. You get games like this and anomalies and about 20 games in you know what you got, but this was 2 bad games in a row, and the next few games aren’t easy.
The problem is that we have too much talent . We need a better overall mix in the 12 forwards...somebody has to get dirty every now and then . Guys like Goodrow-Kreider-Blais-Carpenter have to initiate stuff ....and I purposely left Reaves off that list as he has one purpose and that is it and he is too slow to be of use for anything else . Rangers simply mailed that game in . Cuylee and Othmann can't become Rangers fast enough . Inject those guys as top 6 forwards and we are in business . Until then....expect more of the same . Kreider seems to have his head up his azz ....hopefully just a short funk.....maybe the Isles game brings them out of it ...but overall we look pretty soft .

Panarin, Kakko and Kravy made an effort.

The Vets are off to a slow start again. Same story as last year. I'm sure they will get going, but the Rangers need to start stealing wins to bide the time otherwise they will fall behind the eight ball quick.

Schneider looks raw. Laffy looks lazy. He's probably the most troubling.

Blais gets 20 games from me, but I see where this is going.
Nope- Mica’s played great, Breadman leads the league is scoring— the only vet whose off to a slow start is Mr. 50 goal scorer who we all knew was a fluke season.

But yes the rest of your post is fine.

Halak looks pretty cooked
I mean this is basically the only analysis anyone needs to offer. Last nights game would have been 3 or more goals closer if the goalie was even decent. He was putrid. He’s old, looks slow and not even sure our goalie whisperer can save this guy.

Jones-Schneider pairing not looking too good. Could use a Vet d-man to help them out.

This is why these stats are embarrassing. Panarin bar chart looks like he was terrible in this game and he was the best forward on the ice.

Calling Laffy lazy is one of the worst takes I've ever read here.

Georgiev was much better than Halak appears to be.

Kakko doesn't look out of place in the top six. We need more out of Lafreniere.

Maybe it's just a nothing sample but I was surprised how unskilled Trocheck looks live. Can't pass, can't shoot.
Trocheck looked a lot better when the Rangers played against him.

Halak looks every bit his age. Ooof.

I really like how Gallant defended him. It was clearly his fault and you could tell
Halak knew it was his fault based on his comments “I really hope I can contribute to this group winning sometime soon” but this is why guys love playing for Gallant. He would still not throw his goalie under the bus.

Little bummed to see Schneider regress since last season. Definitely going to be growing pains with that third pair - as-is, there is no freaking way we can go into the playoffs with that duo.

It's great to see Kakko being much more involved the play in general but at some point him and Laf will need to start producing otherwise the bust talk will come roaring back with a vengeance.

Overall I'm still seeing the same issues creeping in that we saw last season - biggest one being the ability to score 5 on 5 consistently. To me that's definitely a coaching thing

I think saying Schneider regressed is a bit of an overstatement. He has not looked tremendous but Jones has looked far worse. Jones can't win a puck along the boards at all. He's just downright useless in most of the defensive aspects of the game. Schneider is trying to cover for him and often puts himself out of position because his defensive partner is not god.

Weren’t the Rangers ~.500 the first month of last year? Gallants teams always have a very strong record around the holidays.

Good thing about last night was I was there and will return in the spring for the playoffs. Its getting very difficult around the garden to get in and out ...too much construction etc....Looked like they were sleepwalking..Bread was waiting for the others to join him. Igor could have stolen the game if he was playing. 74 was quick and motivated. I would bench Reeves and rely on Blais for the rough stuff. Rangers looked like a team waiting for the real games to begin. GG is handling the malaise very well...if he freaks they may tune him out. LGR

He does look old. I was surprised when the Rangers signed him to be honest. I thought they would go after someone younger like a Martin Jones or Charlie Lindgren, but I am assuming they were enamoured with his reputation.

Hopefully he is just off to a slow start but its a little concerning. At this point we might as well have Henrik suit up

This is my take as well. They know they’re a playoff team and they know how much abuse the playoffs inflict. They are coasting. It happens. All those Penguins and Lightning slow starts and fans around the league wondering if those teams were finally done, only to see them ramp it up after New Years. It’s a thing.

My friends, we don't fail to score at even strength because we have too much talent.

It's very much in the other direction.

We have high end talent that we can crystalize on the powerplay. Other than the guys who play on the powerplay, Kaapo Kakko (2 points in 6 games) is our best forward with a bullet.

I'm not saying this to be grumpy, it's just a perspective on our team building going forward, but this forward corps is completely f***ing pedestrian.

They need to stop believing their own press

They’re good, and they’ve worked hard to get there.

What they haven’t figured out yet is that staying good is just as hard as getting good.

They still play down to their competition and take nights off.

I’m not worried

He had a 2 on 1 with Carpenter and fed him the puck, maybe a tad too early. He was good along the wall. He stood on his feet, played stout if not anything remarkable
The play there was (and I am no Kravtsov defender lol) to give the pass right back tic tac toe style and Kravtsov would've ripped it.

I honestly think that was his thought process...

Carpenter froze like a deer

With a minus 3 goal differential in that span.

How about from now on, cut out the jinx threads?
No team can go 82-0, but I still think the Rangers are an extremely well built team and a contender

Fox, Shesty and Kreider will be better as season progresses and so will the overall Rangers performance
