If James Neal is not a sniper then there are only a few people in this class called "sniper".

To me a "sniper" is someone like Neal or Kessel or Cammaleri or Hoffman. They just score a high percentage of their goals from distance. And for some reason all of them have been traded for weak packages in recent years, or are about to be (Hoffman probably will be).

Not that they aren't valuable, but it appears that teams don't really consider them to be a special category. They aren't valued more highly than other goal scorers. That or this group just happens to be all nutjobs.

We could get Hoffman for a good price this summer, but keep in mind he is being run out of town by Ottawa. I don't know why.

I'll address only the point #1. I read this forums, but I did research to make sure I didn't miss something. All what you said in a year about snipers is that Neal is not one of them and that

No names. No real proposal.
I just didn't find the answer: who realistically could be that guy for the Jackets?

Laine :sarcasm:

You know every time I look at this title all I think is "Man I sure hope we aren't the same team - we suck.".

If snipers are being frequently traded for "weak packages", perhaps they are not as valuable to a successful team as some here think.

What about a Yakupov for Hartnell trade. Oilers get a Veteran LW who is still kinda producing and we get a project but save cap. At worst hartnells spot goes to sonny/Bjorki/Andy/Rychel and Yakupov is an upgrade to the 3/4 line.

Yak value is at an all time low.

I don't think 43 would waive his NMC to go to EDM. I mean, we don't have much to brag about here, but...

Someone mentioned fear of Mathews being our next Brule - Nail is Edmonton's Brule.

Over his career his has 108 points and is a -90. Seriously impressive for a #1 overall pick. It's not impossible for Ryan Murray to reach is point total at 250 games, but not likely.

He is from a town not too terribly far from there, FWIW. It still seems likely he'd want to avoid there, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. I am firmly opposed to the idea of acquiring Yakupov, though.

Yak is bad. He is terrible. Yak is horrible. I would yak if he were to come to Columbus.

http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/rat...000&teamid=0&type=goals&sort=A60&sortdir=DESC

Out of the 396 forwards who have logged 1000 or more minutes of 5 vs. 5 playing time over the past 3 seasons, Yak is last in goals against per 60 minutes.

http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/rat...1000&teamid=0&type=goals&sort=PCT&sortdir=ASC

He is 7th from the bottom of the same 396 in % of goals for vs. goals against (35%). His 1.52 minus goals for vs. goals against per 60 min 5v5, I believe is the worst.

Yak is definitely in the running for the worst #1OA of all time. Had Howson had the #1 choice in 2012, he'd be a CBJ no doubt.

Agree, but to be fair there are a BUNCH of Oiler players toward the bottom of that list.

Is this a joke? An anti-Jarmo joke, perhaps? Or do you just not do research and say random BS? Our scouts, like the Oilers scouts, didn't seem to like Yakupov.

The only thing we have reported from that summer is that Howson would have traded the pick if Murray was taken, that's how little he liked Yakupov.

Presumably that would have been the Islanders offer of every one of their draft picks for the #2OA, which Howson turned down after the Oilers picked.

There are. But Yak has an amazing gap between offensive and defensive production.

He barely produced when paired with McDavid this season. His rookie year was good, but it's been all downhill from there. His supporters claim that Dallas Eakins ruined him.

Gotta see the Futility live

I can't wait for the Summer BS promo. My guess is, there will be "prove it on the ice" comments coming from JD.
