I mean, we must be... increasingly on the alert to prevent these upscale gentrification apartments from increasing the garage gap.

Columbus residents I implore you, we must not allow... a garage gap!"

ok, kinda new to Columbus and am confused. I am watching the Columbus morning news show on Fox 28 and I keep seeing ads for ABC6. Are Fox and ABC one and the same in Columbus?

Sister stations. I think it’s the Sinclair broadcasting company or group…. That just happens to own a fox and abc affiliate. So there is some connection

Sinclair, the people who can’t freaking figure out how to stream the Jackets, owns 6 and 28 as well as Bally sports. Channel 10 and the Dispatch used to be owned by the same group but not anymore. Channel 10 and the sports radio station WBNS (97.1 The Fan and 1460 AM) are owned by the same group. For sports radio, most of the national ESPN crap is on 1460 AM and local content is on 97.1 FM. National radio doesn’t talk about Ohio State enough, so 97.1 is more popular than 1460.

Thanks to both of you for that info.

Honestly I am not a diehard college sports fan, don't follow baseball or soccer, hate basketball and the Deshaun Watson debacle has sapped my interest in the NFL. IOW its become all CBJ for me so I stick to podcasts exclusively for my sports talk now. Oh and I'll talk Pro Pickleball with anyone willing to engage me in it :)

The radio in the car is either tuned to WOSU - NPR or a Wondery or BobbyMac podcast.

Getting back to my original question, I was surprised because I saw the Fox graphic at the bottom right of the screen but then a commercial for the ABC news teams.

They share a news team also, so it gets really confusing when you see the same anchors on two different stations. If you are watching ABC local news prior to 7:00 am, they will tell you to switch over to Fox when Good Morning America starts.

Per the Canadian media there is absolutely nothing in Columbus.

Those hoseheads. We have poutine, ice rinks, and beer. What else is there in life, eh?

Even if you take out the parts of Ohio that are likely to be Pittsburgh or Detroit fans, the Blue Jackets market is still well over 8 million people: Columbus metro (2.1m)+Cincinnati metro (2.2m)+Dayton metro (0.8m)+Cleveland metro (3.6m).

Well I think one of the things that could be leading to the exodus back to the US is the fact of this new COVID strain may lead to more lockdowns and in Johnny's case he likely doesn't want a new born that most of his family can't visit if they lockdown again.
Again trying not to gt this political - but the new strain is being downplayed by the Media (as opposed to prior strains which were covered on every news cast).

Throw in the taxes (mentioned in another thread) there are clearly reasons players prefer other destinations.

But it’s so hard to find parking downtown with all of the tractors. :sarcasm:

Not to get too political, but I recall one year (within the last 12) that Columbus was in the running to hold either the Republican or Democratic National Convention at the Convention Center. Someone did the math and there was probably enough hotel space (this was before the Hilton addition right there) around the city, but ultimately it was not selected because of something like "the city was too densely packed near the Convention Center."

Hey All,
Coming into town Friday morning for the Bruins game. First visit to see them play in Columbus which leaves only 4 teams/cities the wife and I haven't seen them play in(Carolina, Dallas, Seattle and New Jersey).

We're staying right by the arena. Any post game restaurant recommendations? Also, as a Penn State Alum, was wondering of any good sports bar to watch the game at on Saturday.

Thanks in advance!

By “good bar to watch the game” you mean “place where we won’t turn up in a dumpster”?

The R Bar is a hockey / sports bar near the arena. People might be friendlier to a Penn State fan who is touring NHL cities than anywhere else in town.

Some post game restaurants adjacent to or not far from the arena would include Nada (upscale Mexican), Moran's (bar and grill), Flatiron (cool little place with good bar and decent sandwiches), Agave and Rye (funky place with good drinks and tacos). You could walk a bit further to the Short North and there are a ton of places to choose from (I like The Pearl, Arch City Tavern and Forno).
As for watching the OSU/PSU game, you could go to RBar which is an awesome hockey bar, but would be good to watch any sports there. Novak's is cool, or maybe someplace like Bernard's. I'd avoid the bars on Park Street like Brother's, Gaswerks, Callahan's, etc. If you're looking for a quick inexpensive bite and don't mind ordering to go, Wario's Beef & Pork is across the street from Nationwide and is pretty legit.

If you can get a reservation, go to Martini for some great Italian food. It is kind of similar to Capo in South Boston (although there is no nightclub underneath lol)

If you want a good football atmosphere go to Pint House to watch the game, looking for a “dive” go to Zenos. I personally enjoy Novak’s because it’s not too crowded and they have a nice rooftop patio (and Barley’s serves food there!)

Likely to visit on Thursday (Habs) and wondering...given I'm driving about three hours each way but am not planning on making a long trip out of it.......what are my parking options if I'm in town long enough to do things besides the game but otherwise not much else. (My question reframed: is it actually just as cheap to Airbnb it for a nap to go with whatever parking spot I find?)

If you park next to the arena, it’s anywhere from 10-22 bucks. If you are willing to walk, you can park along Buttles Ave (West of Neil Ave) or Thurber Dr for free.

DW and I are coming in for the Buckeyes game this Saturday. Its a 16:00 start so expect it will end around 18:30. The Mrs and I will be looking for some dinner but are not confined to the campus area. We are fairly new to central-Ohio and are still exploring (we live North towards the Mansfield area). Uptown Westerville and Delaware have cute walkable downtowns and have dined in both and Dublin seems to have a happening downtown around the cool pedestrian bridge. Are there other cute towns or is there something interesting downtown or inside the 270 loop we should check out? We've been to Short North in the daytime so have not tried any of the restaurants (but as a native New Yorker bagel snob, I can recommend the bagels at The Lox).

We have been to Beer 101 Kitchen in Dublin and Bru Burger in Westerville (would like to try Bru Burger in the summer and sit outside on their upstairs patio). We ate at The Keep downtown when we went to see Hamilton. Can hit Polaris easily any time of the year so something not around there would be great.

We don't need fancy but not looking for a sports bar or fast casual either. We hear C-Bus has some great dining options so some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Middle Eastern/Mediterranean is always a plus with us (a place like Taza in Cleveland would do us nicely) :)
