Tavares isn't going anywhere, so who's left out of the 4?

Girard was actually really good last season, hasn't been as great this season but is starting to pick it up. He's an underrated defenseman league wide, but top 20 would be a stretch. Lots of his value lies in his insane contract - he's a top pairing guy making $5 million long term, that is insanely valuable

For sure, not saying Marner can't pull that type of return but BUF is in full rebuild, feels like TOR would prefer roster players who are in early 20s and ready to make an impact right away.

Still unsure if Dubas would do it though.

They could use all the picks as ammo. Tuch is a nice player. Anyway I doubt it happens and genuinely don’t think it’s a good idea.

The OP is swapping a top line winger for a top 4 defenseman. Your response is swapping a top line winger for a bottom pairing defender with less than 30 NHL games under his belt.

Leafs fans seem super touchy about Nylander in here - must be a lot of bad proposals for him floating around. I'm remembering a time when all you guys wanted to do was shoot him into the sun, so he must have really turned it on.

Girard is an underrated player as well. I think this proposal is pretty close. Maybe if Willy really has leveled up, this is a little too easy for Colorado, but I dunno. Sammy has also been excellent. 4pts and easily the team's best player last night.

And the Leafs recent playoff failures have been because of a lack of scoring from their big name forwards, which this trade would make worse. Or because of disasterous defensive play from their puck moving D men (namely Gardiner), which this trade would make worse.
