That'd be awesome if he could pierce the thick Avs armor and get some privileged informations/scoops. Not holding my breath though, Avs gonna Avs.

They were starting to give the previous Athletic dude some stuff before he left. Weren't they? I think they probably want someone they trust as much as we do lol.

They weren't giving him scoops or anything, they were giving him stories to write on his blog on the Athletic. None of it was true beat stuff.

Real insiders leak before everyone else that so and so are on the trade block, etc. All the stuff that we all crave but never had.

Thanks everyone. This is what I’ll be dealing with for a bit. This is what happens when you hide all your f ups from your subscribers.

That tweeter really seems to have the reading comprehension skills of a Daterlover. The Internet is a big stupid place, but you're a good egg and we'll support you as you change the entire universe of hockey as AD is shot in a cubbard-shaped coffin in to the stackosphere.

Congrats on the new gig, but I think you may be looking at this a little too much from your own perspective.

Plenty to criticize Dater for, but usually people announce who the new replacement is, and all the great things they're about to do, a day or two after it's announced the last guy is leaving to give them a moment as a sign of respect. Usually when it's someone with a "name" or someone with a long tenure. That's how teams and businesses announce management changes. It's not usually done on the same day.

For all his faults, Dater had been covering this team for 20+ years. Not the biggest deal in the world, but that's probably the source of these kind of posts if you're getting a lot of them.

The only reason this was announced today was because Dater went public on Twitter. This was not the plan. He doesn’t care, though.

I mean to be fair, if he was let go and he just wrote his last article, he can announce he's leaving whenever he wants. I'm just saying you're seeing those replies because you made your announcement the same day he made his.

Ideally the way to prevent that would have been for CHN to say they will be making an announcement soon on the replacement, and then announced it a day or two later. Perhaps on friday. Not a big deal either way though.

Congrats on the gig. Super happy to see an HF Alum (can we call you that now?) make it.

Please, just do us all one favour and figure out what the f*** is wrong with Bowen Byram.

Should've shown a bit of respect for Dater who left suddenly a few hours before a game. I'm sure the CHN subscribers would have been okay with nobody writing anything about our first game after the Christmas break.

Hold the f***ing phone, we've found someone who listens to that podcast that gets spammed on here

Congrats man! You’ve earned it!

I also can’t wait to see Dater’s patreon tiers! For an extra $5 a month, he can have heat in his Airbnb!
For $100 a month he will personally pick you up in his lyft and tell you the story about that one time he listened to a construction worker and put out a tweet rumoring that Ball Arena was moving to Commerce City.

Not surprising that Dater is not showing one iota of personal responsibility. Even the humility he displayed after getting rightfully shitcanned by the Post he very aggressively took back later.

Anyway, does this mean Brennan Vogt is still part of the team?

Saying that Denver is a vibrant hockey media market is a joke. All these fledgling entities pumping amateur-level content is nothing. It's like a rebuilding franchise with a bunch of plugs and Megan and TMV as prospects.

Dater's new site

My goals for this site carry one big, overarching desire: To stop feeling like a hamster on a wheel and start taking my time a bit more and really writing the way I know I can.

Sounds like he had pressure to constantly put up more content on CHN.

I’ve had a hard week. Very hard. A few days ago, I actually resigned from the site I basically started myself in 2019. It was called Colorado Hockey Now, and it was a success. The subscriber numbers were, by far, the highest of any of the sites in the “Hockey Now” network, and the average traffic per month was higher than some sites that cover all sports in town. We only covered one team, the Colorado Avalanche.

I was super scared at starting my own site in 2019, after all those years of having a guaranteed paycheck. It was hard to put aside the fear and actually do it. But, to my astonishment, the subscribers started pouring in. I still get emotional just thinking about it. Those first couple of years at CHN were some of the happiest of my life.
