..I didnt do this for this board, only the Bruins one. so
here I go.

Name: Chris
Gender: Male
Age: 18, 19 in July
Location: New Britain, CT
Status: Single. Gotta find a girl that likes hockey, lol.
Occupation: Freshman at Central Connecticut State University. Write for the CCSU Recorder, pretty much about the Hartford Whalers lol. Majoring in Communication and a minor in Journalism. Planning on transferring eventually to Suffolk in Boston to major in Print Journalism.
Favoite Music Artist(s): Alice in Chains, Oasis, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Metallica, Sublime, Rammstein, Live, Beastie Boys, Nirvana, the list goes on....
Favorite TV show: The Simpsons, Chappelle's Show, Wondershowzen and the Daily Show
Favorite Book(s) or Author(s): Anything on Socialism, Communism, Eastern European history, Cold War, 20th Century History, or Kury Vonnegut.
Favorite Av: Possibly Hejduk or Skrastins
Favorite Ex-Av: Fiset, Roy, and Forsberg
Favorite non-Av: Ilya Kovalchuk
Next or other favorite team: The Boston Bruins. Both of these teams will suffice until the Whalers and/or Nordiques return.
Favorite Av moment: I dont know if I have been a fan long enough to experience one. Possibly just seeing Roy play out his career working his *** off as usual.
How and when did you become an Av fan?: I wish there was an easy answer.

Here is my story:

I began being a hockey fan because of NHL 95 for Sega. My cousin had it. I knew all about the Whalers, but wasnt sure if I wanted them as my team. (It was a bit of a stigma back then when you are 7 and a Whalers fan. I dont know why, it just was) So my cousin, who played hockey so I had 100% faith in him (he was 6 months younger than I) decided to play a little joke on me. One that would effect my team picking for a while. We began playing as the Ducks. He said that this was an awesome team. So I became a Ducks fan. I then saw him less than a month afterward wearing a Red Wings hat. Traitor. He told me he didnt want me to have the same team as him so that we could both have a team to always be when playing the game. Fair enough. We played his game alot, and one night I remember playing with him. We were the Quebec Nordiques. We played a shortened season and entire playoffs. We won the Stanley Cup with them and we were way past our bedtime. It was glorious for a little kid. I kind of liked Quebec ever since. I went to a Whalers game in their final season, and they beat the Rangers 7-2. I liked the Whalers ever since. They only had a couple months left though so I didnt really have much time with them, and I refused to support Carolina.

When the Whale left, I still liked the Ducks, but also warmed up to the Bruins. They were local, and I never minded them, so I began to follow them. The Nordiques had already moved from Quebec, and I didnt think it was right to like them. It took a little while to warm up to the Avs. The whole Ducks thing faded away and I really needed a West team to follow. When Bourque left Boston, I am not gonna lie, I was pissed. I wasnt really happy he was with the Avs, and my consideration of following them was halted....for the moment. I saw them win the Cup, and though I wasnt cheering for them, and disappointed that Bourque did it without the Bruins, the joy in his eyes was nothing that I had ever seen. He won this one for Boston. This was really for us.

Boston and Avs ever since. (That Ducks cup run a couple years ago was spectacular though, and since I idolized Kariya and Selanne as a kid I was very happy to see they had a shot to win it.) When Kariya and Selanne signed with the Avs, that was probably the point where I became a diehard Avs fan. That was when they were equal to the Bruins, and are still there today. Even while living in CT, I did not get NESN, so I would never see the Bruins play. ESPN played the Avs alot, so I got to watch alot of Avs games through high school, it was great.

I just want to be a part of seeing the Avs winning a cup before this generation of players switches their sticks for golf clubs.

Come on Colorado!

Um, I know this is way recent but when I heard that the Avs traded David Aebischer for Jose Theodore. I just got this great feeling about it and I think Jose can take us all the way next year...

Refrained from doing this earlier because when I google Roman Tanner and I get hits for HF posts, I find it a little, oh.....disconcerting.
"So Mr. Tanner, you are applying for "so and so" position...ok...resume looks fine, just let us do a background check. Wait a minute.....wait a minute.....you mean you actually think Pierre Lacroix made a good move in trading away Regehr?....Well, I'm sorry but you're not what we're looking for"

But, I suppose....it is what it is.:sarcasm:

Name: Roman Tanner (Really trying to keep everyone guessing)
Gender: Male
Age: Not even my mother will tell me...If you find out, let me know
Location: Cow-country...Calgary, Alberta
Status: Desperately trying to get out of a relationship. "Just kidding babe" (she reads my internet history....this could be trouble...)
Occupation: Lover, dreamer and occasionally a screamer. On the side, I'm an engineer.
Favoite Music Artist(s): Lately....it's been Postal Service, Death Cab, Get Up Kids and a whole lot of Eddie Vedder...
Favorite TV show: Entourage, and virtually anything else HBO produces except that god-awful disaster that is Louie, Louie.
Favorite Book(s) or Author(s): Enjoy Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Umberto Eco, and my man at ESPN, the honorable Bill Simmons.
Favorite Av: Joe Sakic. That's it.....he's the guy. Don't even want to dilute the list with others.
Favorite New Avs: Love Wojtek's potential, Still excited about Stoa and think Stastny's pedigree has to count for something.
Favorite Ex-Av: Drury, Deadmarsh, Forsey.
Favorite non-Av: Vincent Lecavalier, Brad Richards, Jarome...
Next or other favorite team: The Flamers, I did after all grow up here...I hate the bandwagon jumpers now though. Where were you in 1996?
How else is hockey in your life?: Play year round. Office leagues and summer men's leagues. Picked up a pen to write for HF (which is why I signed up for the messageboard), but couldn't keep up the time commitment and quit. Also, I felt with the Avs growing trend of drafting collegiate, I wasn't getting enough exposure to the prospects...You can only watch so much of Chris Durand...I still try to catch as much prospect action as my schedule permits...
Favorite Av moment: 96 Cup. Loved that team.
Least Favorite Av moment: 7-0 Detroit. You all know the game. Absolutely devastating. It still stings.
How and when did you become an Av fan?: Started with the Nordiques due to a family connection (I guess I was a sucker for punishment)...Made the natural transition to Denver. Never looked back.

Occupation: Architect
Favoite Music Artist(s): Opeth, Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Dream Theater, Black Label Society, Rush
Favorite Av: I just got a sweater of my namesake, Laperriere. (My friend who is a Blues fan started calling me "I-Lap" when he played for St. Louis)
Favorite Ex-Av: I love watching Ville when he's not playing the Avs
Favorite non-Av: Kovalchuk for some reason
Next or other favorite team: Probably Boston, out of pity
Favorite Av moment: I was at game 1 of the 2001 WCF against St. Louis. Forsberg just recently was ruled out because of his spleen, and Joe Sakic had a penalty shot. The crowd noise before and during the penalty shot was the loudest I had ever heard, and after he scored it got about twice as loud. The crowd went absolutely bonkers, it gives me chills thinking about it.
My second favorite moment was standing outside of game 5 of the 2001 SCF trying to get tickets with a sign that read "I worship satan but not the Devils." We got tickets for face value.
My third favorite was watching game 7 2001 SCF in a bar with a broken foot from a soccer game earlier in the day. I chose not to go to the doctor until the next day.
Least favorite Av moment: When Brunette was with Minnesota and scored in OT game 7. That still stings.
How and when did you become an Av fan?: Was a general hockey fan since early 90's, playing street hockey and Sega. We would pool our money together to buy cheap goalie equipment (Mylec) and take turns in net. A good saturday night would be 5 guys in an empty parking garage. My friends were fans of their hometown teams, and I was left without anything. The Avs moved here and I've been a fan since.
How else is hockey in your life?: Used to play year round, but concussions have kept me off the ice.:(

How and when did you become an Avs fan: Way back when I was still a young'n my family was hardcore Flames fans. Mind you these Flames were very much unlike the Flames of today, they were elite, offensively, defensively and all that jumble. They had good reason to cheer for the good hometown team. I on the other hand found the Quebec Nordiques intriguing, the worst team in the league? Why not I thought. I always did enjoy going against the grain in the family...sports wise at least.
How and When Did You Become a hockey fan: Grew up in a very hockey friendly family (read...older cousins). I was the runt, and was stuck in net all the time. Ever since then I've loved hockey.

Occupation: Finishing a double major in Finance and Economics at Jacksonville State University. May start a masters degree next year.

Favorite Av: Super Joe, but Stastny is not far behind.
Ex Av: Drury
Other Teams: Atlanta Thrashers by default. Non Hockey teams include: Atlanta Braves, Orlando Magic, and Jeff Gordon.
Favorite Av Moment: 2001 Cup Run. Nothing I have seen in hockey compares to Ray lifting the cup.
How and when did you become an Avs fan: Well here it goes.

I began getting into hockey when the IHL started a team in the Orlando area called the Solar Bears. I loved the team, but they no longer exist. Then one day my dad came home from work and said he was offered tickets to the Stanley Cup Finals and asked me if I would like to go? A 10 year old hockey fan would never turn that down. So we packed our bags and took a trip to game 3 of the 1995-1996 Stanley Cup Finals in Miami. Well it was an experience to say the least. I fell in love with Patrick Roy instantly. Although to this day I regret throwing a rat onto the ice. After the game I thought the Avs would be great to follow because they had just started and I could be a part of their entire Colorado history. The organization attempted to win, which is something I must have in a team I support. As they say the rest is history.

 GO AVS!!!! :handclap:

How else is hockey in your life?:
Never learned to skate, so other than street hockey it wasn't much of a factor. Honestly got into hockey late in life, when we needed a sport to do a fantasy league during baseball's offseason. We picked hockey over basketball almost on a whim, and 15 years later, hockey is my favorite sport by far.
Favorite Av moment: No question - watching Ray Bourque raise the Cup
How and when did you become an Av fan? Started liking the Nordiques because I had some youngster named Joe Sakic tearing it up in my fantasty league. Lost interest when they moved to Denver, but the fires started burning again when Bourque was traded. I knew I was hooked in those playoffs when we had a dinner party that happened to fall on the same night as the final game of the Stars series (when we got eliminated), and I kept leaving our guests to watch until I gave up on the party altogether. We got DirecTV (and Center Ice) soon after, and now I watch almost every game.
Favorite Non-Av Moment: Seeing Bourque's last B's game in person.

How else is hockey in your life?: I never played myself, but started to love the game at about 12 years of age.

Favorite Av moment: Ray Bourque's smile while holding the cup.
How and when did you become an Av fan?: In 1995, I was in my freshman art class and a representative of the Colorado School of Art & Design came to talk to us about "our future plans." They showed us some student work out of a portfolio, and one thing in particular caught my eye. It was a cool logo involving the letter "A." I asked what it was and the rep said that a student from the school had entered a contest to design a logo for the new NHL team, and that was the winning design. I asked him more, and he told me that the Nordiques were moving from Quebec to Denver. I was already interested in hockey, having played it and mastered NHL 94, so I decided that I was going to start paying attention to this team. They won the Cup that first season, and I was instantly hooked.
Favorite Non-Av Moment: The opening sequence to the original NHL Hitz.
